Hi fellows,

First, I am sorry for my broken English...
I'd like to buy a DC-280 . My question is: are you guys
using this model satisfied the battery life? The last
digital camera I had few years ago is Fujifilm DS-7 which
was a very early model of 0.35Mega and 640*480. It is also a
battery eater. I don't know how far has DSC been gone for power
consumption in battery, especially DC-280.

Most of the users of DC-280 satisfy with the photo quality,
But how about the battery life? Compare to other brand?

Any suggestion is appreciated.

Think about this question. The pictures are the point, so battery life really has to take second place on a list of priorities. MOST digital camera users complain about battery life. People change their habits - such as the use of LCD - in order to extend battery life. It's a general problem.

Having said that, I'm quite happy with battery life on the 280. My kit came with Kodak NiMH batteries of 1450 mAH, a high class battery, IMHO. I've taken over 130 pictures with it and have not recharged so far. However, they were default quality pictyures indoors, no cold weather or anything else that might affect battery life. You might say my sample so far is not very challenging.

I ordered a couple of extra sets of batteries from several places, Quest and Nexcell brand batteries. Both have been well reviewed by users. I intend to make a sealed lead acid battery setup (cost around $50 US) for extended trips. Meanwhile, a Maha charger from Thomas Distributing is doing splendidly. I have two sets of spare 4-packs.
Any suggestion is appreciated.
Kai, my main suggestion is to get this camera NOW if you want those photographs.

Good question!

Kodak bundles the camera with NiMh batteries, and they are excellent. I've taken about 100 pictures or so before recharging was needed. However conditions will vary, so will your battery life - depending on what you shoot. NiMh batteries don't have a memory like NiCd, so you can recharge them whenever you want to. I tend to put mine in a charger at night (if I think I'll be taking a lot of pictures the next day).

You can increase the battery life by using the LCD as little as possible (turn off Quickview and use Review as little as possible). I'm also guessing that low-res pictures don't require as much power as high res.

Still, with the recharger, I find that I can shoot as many pictures as I want freely through the weekend without worry. The problem comes when everyone wants to see the pictures on the LCD or on the Video output. This is where the AC adapter comes in handy!

Hope this helps. The camera is great - and the pictures are wonderful!

Best wishes,
Charles Lee

I bought a DC280 about 1 month ago and have been VERY pleased with it. Everyone tells me that you can't expect more than about 2 hours of battery life no matter what digital camera you are using. I do not believe that the DC280 is a "battery hog" but I did buy the optional AC Adapter from Kodak which I use when uploading pictures to the computer.

From my picture-taking experiences with my DC280, I would say that you can easily get 2 hours of use with the rechargeable batteries which are included with the camera.

Good luck with your camera!!! I hope you enjoy it.

You GO, Kai! You'll have lots of fun with this camera. It's small enough to take around with you and catch great pictures everywhere. Just play with it a while. It will soon feel like a natural extension of your arm - like a watch.
