Hello,

I like the mapple leafs best.

Since I´m also a proud owner of a new SD10 Kit perhaps you are interested in some absolute DSLR-beginner shots here. I owned a Sony DSC-707 before.

http://homepage.mac.com/wiki/PhotoAlbum37.html

The camera, lenses as well as the Flash (EF- 500 DG Super SA-N) are very easy to operate to start with. This camera is the most motivating thing I can think of.
Highly recommended even for a beginner.
Also thanks for all people in this forum sharing your photos and experiences.

The lenses show well and the SD10 definitely shows the "Sigma" look/feel. These are some of the better images I have seen quality wise. There appears to be some softness in the corners at 18mm but at f8 the lens performs well. The softest seems to be IMG0151 - the 55-200 at 55mm f4.

Nice work.

Sony DSC-707 before.
Seems that the 707/717 attracts good photographers or makes them good.
Looks very good (actually better than my beginner stuff with the SD9), I would recommend you email laurence so that he adds you to the user gallery.

You spoil the fun of all those people who like to complain about flash and skin-tone night and day ;)

Dominic ,were these handheld or did you use a tripod or other stabilization? Thanks...Jim

Thanks for viewing

I was planning to buy the new Sony DSC-828 when I came across the galleries at pbase viewing 1000´s of photos. Among them SD9 and a few SD10.
I changed my plans in just a day.

It may be just a matter of how one looks at photos rather than pure technical explanations but these photos with the Foveon chip do look different.

Now I also know a bit about why and that even more convinced me.
Real measured information vs. interpolation in simple terms.

Obviously my eyes know about more realistic colour transitions and textures and they can see differences which are hard to show in the commonly used test configurations.

Wiki,

I too am a current Sony F707V owner and I had some very bad experience with the EF 500 DG Super..Autofocus simply does not work with this flash!

Wiki,

I too am a current Sony F707V owner and I had some very bad
experience with the EF 500 DG Super..Autofocus simply does not work
with this flash!
Hi,

I use the flash now for a few days and it works quite well, but what can I say. Never used an advanced flash before in my life.

Yes the Sony is quite good with it´s built in laser assist pattern for autofocusing.
On the other side I frequently lost photos because of wrong focusing.

The assist lamp on the Super Flash is not really strong and I experience that the focus is hunting back and forth in low light situations with a low contrast motiv.

Again I don´t have anything to compare it with other than the Sony which let me do the shot despite still sometimes being out of focus using the laser assist light.
Now I see the problem and switch to manual and the result is normally good.
For my eyes the assist lamp provides enough light.

Another thing that may be mixed up here. The Flash has nothing to do with the AF other than adding a little light to the motiv. I find if there is some contrast to be seen it does focus properly. No contrast = switch to manual.

Also I found that if I see the focus becoming close I interupt pushing the shutter and press again to continue. It feels like it sometimes moves through the focusrange too quick to recognize the spot but with this technique I get it to work most of the times.

AF in C-mode also helps sometimes because it adjusts while you move over your object allowing you to start at a higher contrast point and then aiming at your target.

What I feel with this Flash is that to get a nice histogram filled I have to add a bit power on the flash setting for indoor shots, same or more for bouncing flash.

Also the lens probably makes a big difference.

sencerely

Hi Dominic,
Great pictures! These lenses look pretty good for the price. How is the CA?

Thanks for the shots!

Great pictures! These lenses look pretty good for the price. How is
the CA?
Take a look through the branches of the right side of the tree of the third picture for a qualitative look at the lateral CA from this lens. (Green and purple halos on each side of the branches.)

Look through the other 18-50 pictures and you can see the same green/purple haze on backlit objects. The trees on the right in the last (ducks) photo from Domimic show it too. Even though the branches don't all resolve, you can see a green/purple haze among the trees.

Fortunately, this kind of CA can be post-processed away with a little work. Just use different radial distortion curves (like you would to get rid of pincushion, for example) for each part of the spectrum. You do lose some resolution from having to interpolate between pixels, but the resultant image should still be "sharper" than one with lateral CA.

Hello Wiki,

hilsen fra Danmark. I liked your photos on your homepage very much. Looks like my hometown in Jutland,Denmark: Hirtshals. Where in Norway do you have such nice dunes and sand?

Also there's something about the light being special at the sea. The Danish painters used to go live at the sea because of this light.

You used the kit lenses? That's some of the best shots with those I've seen so far. Makes one wonder, since they are cheap and easy to carry on a trip.........

Hilsen Ole

Yes all photos taken with 55-200 Kit lens.

I took some shots from the same position at 55 and 200 producing quite nice pictures. I don´t regret going for the Kit. Soon I will use the 18 - 50 to see how they come out.
This particular beach is located just south of Sola near Stavanger.
I do know Hirtshals too from ferry trips back home to germany.
Come over for a photoshooting weekend but you have to bring the "vino" :-)

Not bad, at the moment I don't think the 18-50 at 18mm is much (if any) worser than my 15-30EX, they seem to be quite equal but I did not really check the CA till now...
Thanks for the shots!

I think that might be the different IR cut off we have now, but Sigma was pretty open on that fact, that the AF Helplight of the EF 500 DG Super does not really work with the SD10 and that you need the SA-N for this...

Hej Wiki,

thanks for inviting me to a shoot-out in Stavanger:-) Wonder when I'll be iin Norway next time........... I live near Copenhagen now.

I didn't realize all photos were taken with 55-200. I guess Dominic is right in saying that it's the better lens of the two dc's.
