My 707 is well over a year old and the battery reads 12 minutes at full charge, yet I can shoot for at least a couple of hrs. Has any one else had this problem of inaccurate battery state readout? Is it the battery or the camera's electronics?
Thanks.

Hi Greg,

Sounds familiar although my battery showed more time than yours (120mins). I suspect that the communications between the camera and battery has gone astray. Somewhere in this forum, there is a discussion about it and some solutions. If you can't find it, this is what I did:
  • Totally discharge your battery by leaving it on photo-taking mode (eg: Program and connecting the video output to theTV (this disables auto-shut off)
  • Reset the F707 by pushing the reset button beside the MS slot
  • Charge the battery and don't remove the charger for several hours after the charge light extinguishes
I got my battrery back from 120mins to the full 180 mins indication this way.

Rgds

It is battery electronic that got screwed up, it is quite common. You should consider yourself lucky, hoewever. Mostly people end up in an opposite situation - one when battery takes full charge and shows it but the shuts off halfway through even though there's plenty of juice in it. Of sourse Sony knows nuthn about it but one of the ways to deal with it is to discharge the battery manually, not in camera, before trying to charge it again.
