Lord knows I have stuck with ACDSee for a long time, as I feel it is the best program for my needs, but these people who run this company seem to be the most pathetic dolts in the history of software. If Vancouver is a Village, then this company undoubtedly employs most of its Idiots.

First they introduce 6.0 with numerous bugs, including useful features from 5.0 that they, oops, forgot to include in 6.0, like a button to go to an external editor from the View window. Gee, I guess we goofed on that one. Wait for the first service pack, says their FAQ, and we'll fix that.

Now comes an "update" to 6.0.2. Tried to install the update. Oops, doesn't work!! You get an error saying that the correct version to be updated is not installed!! How can a company post an update on its web site that doesn't even work?? Didn't anybody check it before it was posted?

Now the funniest part...in order to get technical support, you send an email. The posted likely response time for registered users with a valid license number?? FIVE business days!!

What has happened to that company?? Way back at version 3, when I started using ACDSee, the company seemed to have a clue. That clue seems to have now disappeared into the Canadian fog.

Thanks for the information on the update, I didn't even know there was one yet. They did add the Edit button to the toolbar which is pretty handy. Not sure what else it updates as I can't find a readme or update text.

Thanks again,

VES

Hi Vern:

Sad indeed.

Is it possible that ACD Systems has changed into a moderately successful medium-size company -- and suddenly the bosses are more concerned with cashing in than with quality products and service?

Wouldn't be the first time that sneaky, huge compensation packages, hidden lavish pension plans, company perks squabbles and so on have drained a company of its success.

I wonder if this is the case at ACDSystems?

I wasn't complaining about the software, mine has worked fine for me. ACDSee does what I need it to do, and the addition (or reinstitution) of the Edit button just makes something it could still do about one click easier. Whatever bugs it may have had didn't surface on my system.

I'm not sure what the original posters problems were, I was just thanking him for mentioning the update was available. His experiences may well have been far different from mine.

I'm not seeing the signs you speak of in the software. What is so different or lacking in 6.0 that was better in 5.0?

V6 has no EDIT button??? YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME! did they fix it in v6.0.2? I am installing v6 on my 2nd comp to test it out before I install it on my main computer

When I download the update to v 6.0.2 I get a corrupted file. Is
it a MAC file or am I doing something wrong. Any help will be
appreciated.

Mike
Has anyone got the .MSP file to work for the 6.0.2 update? My XP machine knows nothing about this file type and throws me to Microsoft which in turn refers me to another site. Think I will invest my money in Thumbsplus from now on out!!!!!

I'm using XP Pro and it installed properly on mine. As a suggestion, have you installed any programs that may have changed the association of .msp. Probably not likely, but possible.

After your adventure with 6.0.2 I downloaded the update. I tapped the file icon to start the installation and whoa! the monitor went black and the computer rebooted! (Talk about multi tasking.) My second attempt was even more incredible than the first. I executed the icon and was surprised to see Adobe's Photo Album opening, along with a box that indicated that I had a corrupted file...

Fielding, if you ever do get a sensible reply from "them" would you mind posting the answer here...I'm really tired of dealing with pockets of incompetence. At the present I'm trying to resolve a patch update problem with Paint Shop Pro...it seems that their installer believes the program is open! I'm still waiting for an answer from those Wonder Boys

thanks

Mine comes up as "Windows Installer Patch". When I examine what file this leads to it is called "msiexec.exe", which is found in the C:\Windows\System32\ folder. The file properties show it to be a MS Windows file, my version being 2.0.2600.1106.

I hope this helps you.

I had the same trouble. Found a registry fix here:

This worked for me. Mind you I can't see what's changed in ACDSee.

Great Site, it worked fine and update went flawlessly. Some of the major deficiencies have been corrected, like:

You can now change the location of the database.
Configuring editors works
Automatic update of thumbnail display when images are moved

Thanks

Though the ".msp" update file was an unnecessary bother, the patch has also fixed the sort by date issue somewhat. In some cases it is still slow.

Does this mean that Photoshop Album is the program of choice? I don't know much about ACDSee, but if the company is that incompentent, maybe I should use Adobe. Comments?
