Colors are pretty much peak here now, maybe even a bit past peak - some trees, like the walnuts, are already bare, others soon will be. Yesterday, I cheated and rode the 4-wheeler up to our little mountain meadow instead of hiking up there, because I wanted to save my limited leg-power in an effort to go shooting this morning. Snapped this phone pic of the meadow that is always pretty in the fall. There was a deer nibbling grass in the meadow, but he took off before I could get his pic.

I normally shoot sporting clays at my gun club each Sunday. Earlier pic of me helping a granddaughter on the course:

I haven't been able to do that for months now. I'm not really any better, but I have been pushing the exercise hard, so I thought I'd give shooting a try today. Made the effort this morning with a few very kind and patient friends. Got halfway through the course and had to quit due to exhaustion. My trusty nine pound Perazzi (shotgun) felt like it weighed 50 pounds and my legs were very wobbly after walking only 8 of the 16 stations. I was VERY disappointed with my poor performance. It was good, however, to see my many close friends at the Club!

Yesterday was opening day for pheasant season here - a very big day for me and the dogs. I'm not even close to being able to push through miles of thick cover and rough ground right now. In my 79 years, haven't missed a single opening day, except as an underage child and the three years I was in Vietnam. I even hunted when we lived in Germany for a few years.

Last season in PA:

I have quite a few friends who were forced out of the field due to age, but this is something I literally live for and I'm still holding out hope that the docs will find the problem and fix it in time for the late season here, which runs into February.

Fortunately, life is otherwise very good!

Today meddled with a ring flash, and you can see how it deals with showcasing the different strength/distance/aperture/ISO relations for manual flash power ("M50" probably means exposing for middle gray):

but also for "autothyristor" where it apparently only caters to a single amount of light at varying distances and at least tells you the aperture/ISO relation:

while hiding the manual power/distance chart.

Sorry for not commenting on a photo first: started this post before there was one.

No problem, David!

I think I know what a ring-flash is, but no idea what I'm looking at here....

Tsk tsk tsk.

Well, phone shooting distances and wildlife tend to make a bad match.

If you pool their worry, you probably now got more of it in the gun club than at your house.

Talking about "colors being pretty much peak": I also find it irritating how easy it is to blow the highlights on orange and what amount of work it takes to fiddle those image back into plausible shading. That orange vest certainly is giving whatever color mask your camera used on it a run for its money.

I think the best you can hope for is that they find out how you could work in a more targeted manner on improving your state by yourself, and what to look out for and what to avoid.

There are no pills that could approximate your will power (or I'd want some), but it would be great if you had good pointers to how to employ it.
Fortunately, life is otherwise very good!
Good to hear!

Oops. It is the backside of its control unit, with various settings of ISO/strength/flash mode. Other than the manual power slider (doh!) and the "manual/auto/TTL" slider, nothing connects to the electronics. The information the calculator provides is purely mechanical.

Here is an image I took of the contraption on a camera a short while ago:

The "calculator" images are from the backside of the control unit that here is mounted to the hotshoe of the Nikon camera.

Tsk tsk tsk.
Yes, embarrassing, but true. I try to check out the trails and all parts of my place at least once a week for various reasons, especially during the hunting seasons. The 4-wheeler is very convenient for that.

For sure. I always have my phone with me, not always a camera. Wouldn't have gotten the photo but for the phone, so they do have their value.
If you pool their worry, you probably now got more of it in the gun club than at your house.
Since I had not been to the club in quite some time, I had to explain my health issues numerous times to various people Sunday morning. I've been kinda dreading doing that.

It's called "blaze orange" and is required here for hunting. When that rule first came out, I didn't like it because I now had to go out and buy special hunting clothes. In reality, it's a very good rule - you can really see people at a distance. I think it's cut down on accidental shootings. The color IS very bright and overwhelming.
I think the best you can hope for is that they find out how you could work in a more targeted manner on improving your state by yourself, and what to look out for and what to avoid.
I hope that's not the case!! Am still hoping that they can find something fixable.

No magic - I just look forward to each day and want to keep doing that for as long as I can. I've been very lucky in my life - by rights I should have never survived my time in the Army, but I did - and it went on from there.

Thank you, Don. I'm hoping for that, too.

I guess I'm not much of a photo gearhead. Sorry. Those flashes are often used for macro?

Thanks for posting!

I see you shoot Fuji, as well. So do I. Even though this is a Sony forum - images from any brand of equipment, including Fuji, are most welcome in this thread and in the weekly Challenge.

Hope to see more of your work!

Those images are well-crafted. They remind me what amazing things, we small, soft humans can achieve. They also remind me why I could never live in a city.

How do you like your RX1r?

I bought an RX1r II when they first came out - in 2015, if memory serves. I wouldn't get rid of it because it serve a niche purpose, but it is by far my least used camera due to its lack of versatility. For set-piece landscapes, however, it can't be beat.

I can see why! We actually need rain here - things are very dry now.

Ooh damp but then it could be a lot worse, you could be in Jamaica awaiting the arrival of hurricane Melissa.

This particular flash was marketed for dental work.

Well, that’s a sub-set of macro, right?

I was a bit worried when I clicked on this thread, David. Happy to see it’s dear Erik “on the throne”.
