DPR Update DPReview forum update: timeline and what to expect

Thank you! It's so small that it's hard to notice ( at least for me)...
I visited my go-to DPR forum on my smartphone and the link to this thread was rather prominent on top of what I saw. Brought me here. Bingo!
Cheers,
Ralf
Ok, my bad - mostly I use my desktop computer to post and to read this website... On my smartphone I always use the "desktop mode".

Well, I have to say that I like the new forum look & feel - as shown in the video.

Ah well, a sad day...
Yes, a sad day for us threaded view fans. Since you are DPReview's founder it must be especially sad for you.

I notice you didn't even commit to the date, you said "around". So maybe you won't answer this. But will it be early? Late? Whose time zone?

And will there be some warning before things go read-only?

We don't have a specific time yet. Yes, there will be updates as the day approaches with a time and other expectations.

Sounds fine. Never used threaded view so fortunately not affected.

Couldn't find this in the FAQ: Can we still have white text on black background in the forums?

Good luck with the changeover!

Thanks! The updated forums will also have a Dark Mode, if that's what you are interested in?

Thanks for the super fast reply Matt! Too fast for me to edit my post actually 😅

What I actually meant was the white text on black background in Article comments. Or is that part not affected at all?

If I'm following you correctly, that 'should' be the same...

As a former moderator of a large forum with over 10,000 users—which had to be migrated twice over the years—I understand very well the challenges you’re facing now, and I’m genuinely glad you’re taking this step nevertheless. XenForo is an excellent choice and will undoubtedly enhance the overall experience. Several other forums I regularly visit use it as well, so I’ll feel right at home.

I especially welcome the feature that hides large quotes, since this has been a persistent issue on the current forum. And I certainly won’t miss the threaded view—it felt outdated twenty years ago already, at least in my opinion.
Thanks wjan! Let us know if you have a particular interest in how we can help the community out through this transition.

Comments under articles aren't impacted by this change. Everything there will continue to look and work the same.

I created the original threaded forum system, which at the time was fairly groundbreaking.
it is still innovative, and no one has it like you did it decades ago.

now they are going to toss away your innovation that many of us rely on for following thoughts and collaboration

buy it from them, and we'll rejoin your new site :)
