After update the 1.8 firmware, the screen change occasionally into purple when half press the shutter button. Does not effect for photo. Have to shut down camera and turn on, camera works OK again - until next time...

Anybody same issue?

Install the older firmware to see if that changes anything?

using an sd-card method
Thank you epozar for your suggestion!

It may help but I'm going to send my camera to OM anyway, for checking and cleaning. It is under warranty. Perhaps OM installs firmware 1.7 as they did for one guy.

I seem to have the same purple screen problem. Do let us know how you get on with OM and whether firmware v1.7 solves the problem. I'm not planning any major trips for a while so in the meantime I'll just use my other OM-1.

Mike
I try to remember to inform how it went.

I have the same issue having installed the new firmware a couple of days ago. Oddly when i switch to one of my custom settings it doesn’t happen
Sorry to hear you have the dreaded purple screen too. On the other hand, it seems to be quite common so putting pressure on OMDS to take it seriously and do something about it. Suggest you report the issue as I have done.

Mike

PS I've only seen the problem in C-AF and not S-AF.

That is interesting. Does this imply that saved Custom setting do not update processes to the new firmware, unless we resave them after a firmware update?

There's another explanation. I've only experienced the purple screen when using C-AF, and not S-AF. So maybe APJHh's custom setting is set to use S-AF.

In answer to Mike’s comment about C-AF and S-AF, I use two custom settings, one of each. So, for me at least, the issue doesn’t seem to be related to the AF type. I should also have mentioned that when the issue does occur, the EVF also has the purple issue and the vertically stretched image. I’ll report to OMD and update this thread if I get a response.

Thanks for the feedback. I've not noticed the purple issue with S-AF, but as it is intermittent, that may just be coincidence.

Yes, please report to OMDS. With a flood of queries about the same issue they must (one would hope) take it seriously and find a solution. Let us know their response.

Then you have a golden opportunity to narrow it down to some settings by comparing your custom settings to your global settings, and test some possibilities. That would be helpful.

I got a response from OM support:

"With the information and photo provided, we suggest you send the equipment for analysis in our repair center."

So to prepair a package...

Interesting. Thanks for letting us know. I've not yet heard back from OM support (in the UK) but I'm expecting a similar response.

And second message:

"We have just received information that the issue with your camera is having has been reported to our technical team and a firmware update is expected for the first few days of November that should address, among other things, the issue you described.

Therefore we recommend you wait for this new firmware before sending your camera in for service as this may resolve the issue."

So waiting for a new firmware, I almost already made a package...

Oh, excellent. Thanks for this further information. Clearly this issue has been reported multiple times and they're on the case.

Mike

Now that's significant, and hopefully will resolves the issue for those who are experiencing it.

I've now had my own response from OMDS:

"Thank you for contacting OM Digital Solutions.

OM is aware of this problem, and a firmware update to correct the image distortion is expected in early November.

In the meantime, please feel free to contact us with any additional questions!

Thank you for your preference.

I have had a similar response from OMDS in the UK:

“Thank you for contacting OM Digital Solutions.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

That issue has been detected and our Research and Development team is developing a new firmware update to correct that.
This new update should be released in the beginning of November.

In case you have questions, do not hesitate to contact us.

Best regards,

Fingers crossed…..

It still begs the question of why some people with FW1.8 see it and others don't.

[tap-tap-tap] This thing on?

In case it's not yet widely known, FW 1.9 is the OMS fix for this issue.

I installed 1.9 with no problems since. Never installed 1.8 and had no problem to correct.

Cheers,
Rick

Again, why do some users have the problem with FW 1.8 and some don't? Is it something like different production runs of OM-1's have different chips from others? Is it about settings? In any case, I'm of the opinion that if it isn't broken, don't try to fix it. I realize that just because I don't see it with my OM-1, that doesn't mean there aren't problems associated with FW 1.8 that I will notice later on. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but for now I don't see any reason to solve a problem I don't have.
