Reason for Z9 not finding 5GHz wireless?

I have a new Z6 III and a Z9. The Z9 recently came back from repair. I noticed that my Z6 will find 5GHz access points in the wireless settings but the Z9 does not display any. It's set for both 2.4/5 GHz in the menu settings. I have even copied the network profile from the 6 to the 9 and it does not connect.

Anyone else have this problem? Or what could the cause of this be?

Are both cameras from the same region? IIRC, some regions don't allow 5Ghz so the camera has them disabled.
I believe they would be, Z9 was purchased from B&H and Z6 from Nikon USA refurb. The 9 did have its main board replaced on this last repair trip though I don't imagine they would use parts from other regions?

Perhaps they didn’t manage to connect the 5Ghz antenna after the main board replacement?

Certainly possible if it's a separate connection - I feel like every time I send something in to Nikon repair there is some sort of issue that ends up occurring. Well it sounds like this is an odd situation so I will arrange to have it sent back to them to be analyzed...

Have you reset the cameras to factory settings? I’d do that before sending it back.

None of my Z's have ever shown 5GHz networks, let alone make them. I've even contacted Nikon about it and they just shrug.

It'd sure make wi-fi tethering into Capture One a whole lot faster if it did...

Don’t talk to customer support. Just send your camera to service and ask them to fix that issue. I did that and hey presto, it worked. For the record my camera is a z9.

Mine used to connect to 5GHz networks. I've seen mentions online of other instances where people lost ability to connect to them and they did eventually get it sorted out.

I did and it's the same, no networks show up when scanning with the setting for 5GHz only, they only pop up when it's switched to 2.

Wait time is typically under 15 minutes and the technicians will do their very best trying to resolve your issue.

This is just one example of how far they will go. I was on a call to tech support and the person assisting me contacted Japan to determine what button J was on the Z7 II. This was after a fair bit of back and forth trying to identify Button J. Note I was trying to initialize Subject Tracking and at that time the Reference manual stated the you had to push Button J to activate Subject Tracking. It Turned out Button J is the Joystick button and that trigger for subject tracking was for the Z7 II prototype. So you can see that we did hit a wall created by Nikon not keeping the Reference manual fully up to date. I will also note that section of the Reference manual has been corrected and it may be a result my calling Nikon USA.

So do call Nikon, because you may end up help in sorting out an issue with the firmware for the Z9. Nikon does pay attention to issues like this and when they are discovered it can end up being corrected in a Firmware update. It could also be an issue with the documentation and that can and does lead to the documentation being corrected.

Make sure your router is broadcasting the two frequencies separately.
