Z5II black line problem! Please help

That stinks. Did you happen to write the tests down for future reference? That could be really helpful for someone else having this issue.

I just left the camera at UPS to ship at back to Nikon. Of course, I had to insure the package.

It cost me a whopping 505$ Canadian dollars to ship it back to Nikon! I just wrote a firm and thorough email to Nikon support, detailing my "adventure".

Time to see what their customer service is made of.

It definitely sucks since you didn't have the camera for that long. Ever since they closed the Montreal and Vancouver service centres in 2015, their customer service is somewhat mixed. Hopefully, you get good service.

Hi, sorry I didn't read every reply, but it seems like you guys are still on the fence. To me this looks exactly like cheap LED light "banding" or flicker.

Try taking pictures in the exact same lighting at a (mechanical) shutter speed of 1/125 and also 1/60 and see if the effect is still there. I'm also guessing that you will not see any stripes with natural sunlight at any shutter speed.

Nikon service Canada now has my camera. They are examining it.

I borrowed my brother's camera (he has the exact same model, the Z5II). I took pictures in the exact same conditions with both cameras. My brother's camera produced perfect pictures, while mine displayed the black splotches.

There is definitely something wrong with my camera. I hope Nikon service finds and fixes the problem.

Strange for sure. It really looks like what I’d expect to see from electronic shutter in artificial light conditions. Not seeing a blackout would also imply electronic shutter use as blackout is barely noticeable when the shutter speed is fast enough when using electronic shutter. Maybe the camera was in silent mode forcing the use of electronic shutter or maybe a malfunction where the settings would not take it out of electronic shutter mode properly.

Well Nikon service Canada really came through for me! They are sending me a brand new camera as a replacement! They are sending it by rapid shipping as well. I should have it very soon.

They also took care of my concerns and I will lose nothing. Really happy right now!
Great!. Sounds like you gave the engineers an enigma to play with.

Very nice and happy to hear having good Canadian service! Thank you for sharing.

Glad this worked out satisfactorily. Did they cover your costs for shipping the body to them as well? You quoted a rather steep price for that in an earlier post.

They gave me a 25% coupon code for the Nikon store. I will make very good use of it ;-)
