Vote JOY for township supervisor on November 4th! She has been quoted by reliable sources as saying: "Lower taxes and free treats for all if I'm elected!!"

November 4th is election day, so the candidates have their annoying signs out everywhere. Someone named Joy is running for supervisor in my rural township, so I couldn't resist. :-) At the risk of venturing into a political discussion, I wonder if we wouldn't be better off if my Joy did win vs. the usual politicians.

That is a baroque bow. That would be some rather early U.S. period…
Interesting. What is a baroque bow, as opposed to any other kind?
Convex shape rather than concave (rounded inward) like modern bows.
That guy, by his clothes, was representing a 4th quarter 18th Century period. Note the harpsicord. Very unlikely that the Quaker Boone family would have owned one of those.
Well, in the late 18th century he'll be permitted that bow:: the modern bow shape was invented around that time or slightly later.

Hard going and I had to stop of number of times, but I pushed and made it all the way up yesterday. So pathetic because not long ago, such a walk would have been nothing for me - now it's a struggle. I was happy, nonetheless, to have gotten there,
Glad you made it to the lake, Greg. Your first post did say you weren't able to get there.

Hopefully the doctors will be able to identify the cause of your condition without requiring additional appointments ....
Nancy by the lake - it's mostly surrounded by pines, but you can see a little color.

Was wondering where Joy was in your last post, guess she's busy running for office!

A few pics from Saturday ... was undecided about going so when I reached Times Sq it was already near the end (it started at 11am) as the crowd marched from 47th St to 14th St. I tagged along with the tail end until the end and I was too tired to go back to Grand Central station on 42nd St to see a bit more of the photography exhibit "Dear New York," and took the subway home instead

The colonies were always behind Europe in terms of art and fashion. So, a musical item that might have been outdated in Europe in, say, 1750, might well have been in use and style in 1790.

Thanks. I haven’t been able to make it all the way to the lake for a while. Did yesterday!! Made it today, too. Woo hoo! I’ll post some pics tomorrow. Not much of an achievement for a real walker, but it’s been hard for me.

No accordions or cats to speak of but like you, have been on the road lately. Spent a long weekend in Moab Utah for a wedding and some general R&R. Gorgeous land. Still sorting through photos (we got home last night) but thought I'd post the last photo taken prior to leaving our rental at 6 am for the drive back to Salt Lake City. Orion from our balcony. Taken with an RX100 and a small table top tripod. More to follow.

I’ll bet that was a HUGE event in NYC. There was even a tiny No Kings rally here.

The right to peacefully protest absolutely must be honored.

Greg

Neat, Nick! Moab is truly spectacular! I’m very anxious to see your pics when you have time.

A photographer’s dream. Nonetheless, I found it very hard to convey what you feel when standing there, looking out over the scenery to a two-dimensional image.

Standard combination of political promises incompatible with controlling debt. This country is going to the dogs.

I was very happy to have made it up to the lake two days in a row. We met this young lady and her horses on the trail around the lake - cowgirls are NOT a common sight around here!

Oh, she is there with a hand horse (that would be a literal translation of "Handpferd", a horse you take along without a rider of its own)? Rare sight over here.

Well, they try getting some movement in. Good for them.

Well, this certainly is a part of what it looks like to be in the U.S. that is not likely to go away soon. Whatever the current government chooses to call it.

It's called exercising free speech. More likely to go away soon in the UK and EU.

I was kinda proud of myself for making it up to the pretty lake two days in a row. Since I don't have any heart disease, I figure pushing the exercise hard can't hurt and may help, so decided to do the steep mountain hike up to what we call the Klapperthal lookout.

Lots of rocky cliffs here:

Had to stop a few times, but we made it!! Whew! There are still too many leaves left on the trees to fully see the valley below, but it was pretty anyway.

The dogs were wiped out by the time e got all the way up there - so was I. Going back down was MUCH easier. :-)
