I finally get the allure to Leica after borrowing a SL2 for 2 weeks.

My buddy has been overly gracious lending me his SL2 with Sigma 24-70 for 2 weeks and he is using my Sigma 1.4 primes on his R6.2. I had been intrigued by the lure of Leica and like many I made the “dentist/accountant” comments. I met this friend at a Leica sponsored event in May where I got to use one for the 1st time, we quickly hit it off and talk often.

We get together to shoot here/there, he loves my Fuji XH2 for the size/weight. I would mess around with the SL2, study the files and walked away very impressed.

I have been borrowing it now for 2 weeks, taken hundreds of shots in various scenarios including an amazing creators/car show at a multi million dollar production studio which is where I really got the SL2 to shine! What I am more impressed with is the richness and depth of the colors, at the car show I shot my XH2 as well, when I do an A/B I am shocked at the difference!

I have taken numerous B&W shots, the blacks are amazing with DEEP darks where, as my XH2 really feels dark grey in comparison.

While editing, the DR in pushing highlights/shadows all the way and the image “laughing at me” like we can keep going with zero loss in quality.

This post is a little more of a “until you used a camera/test it under your criteria then don’t judge it by name or others reviews”. I have been extremely impressed with it. I have a couple of client shoots booked next year that could afford me a used SL2-S and a lens to have fun with, and I am giving serious thoughts to ditching Fuji to get Leica as my fun rig.

Here are some shots from my usage (there is a ton more of the car show on my IG/Flickr).

Wow, the Ferrari shots look straight out of their sales brochure.
