I upgraded my iPhone 14 Pro Max to the 17 Pro Max. I recently took it to a photoshoot to compliment my Canon R6MKII and EF 50/1.2 L lens. I love the image quality of my new phone. I followed some of the advise online and reduced the exposure by 0.7 and set it to amber. I thought the outdoor pics look great although I think some of the saturation and warmth of the images were over the top. I really don't mind it on the background but the subject's face on the HEIC files were too warm. No problem in adjusting it on DXO PL 9 Elite as I can apply the AI masks and adjust accordingly. OTOH, the DNG files look kinda bland----well they were meant to be processed. Again, no problem with PL 9 especially since I have the Filmpack 8. I thought they look good with 50% Fuji Velvia 50 :-)

So next time I shoot again, should I use just HEIC and lower the saturation and warmth on post or shoot with DNG and use Filmpack 8? I think for indoors or very low lighting I will use DNG, otherwise HEIC.

I don't know what treatment you apply to your photos.

But the photographs framed in medium shot are catastrophic, It seems like the young girl was added to the decor!

And the lighting looks so artificial.

Can you post one or two photos without editing to see the difference?

I'm sorry, but I've rarely seen photographers with such a fake look.

Your model and your iPhone deserve better!

Nice model, and nice photos.

But as Maoby says, some photos look unnatural. For me: 6, 8, 10, 12

I wouldn't say "catastrophic". Just strange: indeed, It seems like the model was added afterwards.

I suggest shooting DNG for more control, using the embedded ProRaw profile in PL9 rather than the DxO default, and then adjusting the white balance, etc. to taste.

At first I thought when I saw my HEIC files, where are my bokeh shots from the Portrait mode. I didn't realize that when I transfer my images from the 17 Pro Max to the Samsung T7 I clicked on export unmodified it should be just a straight copy. So these pictures are basically unedited save for some straightening the horizon. I gotten used to the warmth of the skintones and vibrancy of the background.

Viewed at this small size, sharpness looks great. But to be honest, while the face of your model is beautifully rendered, the bokeh looks artificial. I can't say for sure, but I suspect some AI is at work, even if you don't use portrait mode.

Thanks for sharing these pictures.

Thanks for your comments Andre. I used the portrait mode. Whether it is artificial or not I like the bokeh a lot, it looks so silky smooth! I gotta share these shots with the model, pretty sure she'll love it.

Cheers,

José

That's the only thing that matters!

Thanks for your comments. I think I will shoot DNG processed via PL 9 Elite. Having said that, the AWB does an excellent job in indoor settings.

Beautiful model and photos but I can imagine how much better they'd look if taken with a nice modern mirrorless camera. But yeah, satisfactory outdoor image quality.

Thanks Tony. My Canon R6MKII images are here at the same shoot:

The 17 Pro Max will not replace any of my cameras but it was meant to compliment them----especially in places where they don't allow those big cameras.

Testing the new site. A couple more head and shoulders shots
