So I have been using the X100VI for some months now and wanted to write my unprofessional review for anyone looking at this camera. I used to own the X100F so I am familiar with the series and before the VI I had the Fujifilm X-T4.
I was lucky I got the camera second hand (almost new) on a very good price so I didn’t have to wait nor did I pay the kind of money I see in several sites. This is a big plus because I think the price is maybe its biggest issue.
The camera is very well built and it feels more solid than my X-T4. At the same time it’s light and although not pocket sized it is still very small. I would accept it being a big bigger if needed for a larger battery or larger sensor but for APSC it is the best size.
Ergonomically speaking although it doesn’t have a big grip, or a grip for that matter, you do not notice it because of its size and weight. I did buy a thump grip to see if it will feel different and although it helps I still have no issue using the camera without it.
Performance wise is very good for what it is designed for. Its focus is faster than you will ever need for most of street photography subjects and the 40mp is unnecessary for most of us. I would prefer the same as the X100F if that could keep the price down.
The battery is on the average side. It is not that bad but I have seen much better battery performance from much cheaper cameras. At the same time though it is easier to have spare batteries with you when the camera is so small. I have 2 extra batteries with me so at the end there is no issue at all.
Overall I would say this is a great camera and I am not even sure how they are going to make it better in the next iteration. Now that they launched the new XF 23mm f2.8 it feels like X-E line and even X-Pro line can cannibalize X100 series. Maybe make a full frame X100. That would make it really unique in Fuji’s lineup without the need to invest a lot in lenses as well since they only need to make one. You never know.
For those who think about getting one I would suggest getting it only if it is at the right price. Fuji X100F is still great and does most of what X100VI does. In my case the only thing that I would miss if I still had the X100F would be the autofocus. I have a 2year old son and it’s not easy to make photographs while he is running and moving like a drunk adult
.
I am sharing some pictures below just to show that this camera can be used in many different occasions without any issue. It is not a professional camera and I am not a professional photographer but it is the best camera to have it always with you.
All photos are edited either in Lightroom or Snapseed. The white borders are all added in Snapseed.
