Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

Hear ya on gritty! Here is the 2nd one in Infrared....talk about GRITTY!

Olympus C-2020 used with 720nm Infrared Filter...
Olympus C-2020 used with 720nm Infrared Filter...

Surprised to hear someone say they hated the Canon Powershot G5...always hear great things about that series of cams...

Cheers!!

That would have been quite expensive I suspect back in 2008 Bruce!

Beautiful view in the first!

Are you starting a vintage camera collection?
The S2000HD was around $1000 USD in 2008!

I just thought I would pick some up some other brands...so see what I was "missing" LOL

Also bought an old Olympus SP560...omg...hated it! Truly crummy camera! Unusable crappy piece of junk!! How they managed to sell that one is beyond me!!

Congrats! Here's hoping DPR comes to their senses and we can do 1000 more, or whatever (said with tongue firmly planted in cheek)
Won't happen. They decided long before they told us anything about it.

To be honest, I think we knew it would eventually be over already when DPR was bought by a company with no interest in photography. They bought the user base and the hits. And I predict this move will decrease just that even more than has already happened.

But I too hope that we can stay together, somehow. It will be very lonely in photography land otherwise.
I have been assured by someone I have no reason to distrust that The Photo / DPRevived is closing in on threaded. Everybody keep your fingers crossed!

Lynne

Yes, but what did it tell you?

Butterbutts are one of my favorite birds. Unfortunately a previous neighbor cut down the big bush they used to show up in once in a while. However, the people who are living there now just put in a hedge between our properties (at least it wasn't a fence) and I'm hoping they (the birds) will come back eventually.

Lynne

Thanks Andrew. The family were not short of a pound or two. On a positive note, they did employ quite a number of local people on the estate. This kind of lifestyle has no appeal for me in the least.

Dave

It's quite a place Charlotte and puts your castle in the shade. 😃

Dave

Thanks Bruce. There's so much to see there that you would need a full day to see it all.

Dave

I got the impression that the number of wedges could be adjusted to meet the number of diners Lynne. Areas of some rooms were roped off preventing closer examination of the contents.

Dave

As good as ever Rich!

Great shots Andrew hope you are keeping well!

Thanks Dave!

Have thought about you several times over the past, including this past week, wondering what you were up to and how you are doing. Well I hope!

As to myself, numerous health issues related to aging but the back was damaged in a car accident in early 2022. It is getting worse so I am expecting some 'intervention' may be required. Could be worse!

Wednesday night I walked out to the fence line across from our property and shot this. 23 vertical images stitched in ICE. It has more detail than the Affinity stitch, but has a couple of stitching errors. I used ICE because of the detail but as it turns out that was a lost cause. It would not upload. I resized to 60% along each axis. It still would not upload. I have resized the resize to 80% of its size and am going to try again.

well apparently that worked. Fill light added in post and a very small boost to 'vibrancy' Pretty much how it looked and not 'unnatural' to what I saw.

These are from October 4th. The roses were a bit beaten up then.

Off topic but apparently the exif information will no longer be viewable on image posts shown in threads after they make the switch to the new forum software. It will be available in gallery images viewed in the gallery. I have not posted images to my gallery in a long time since they announced the closure of DPR. I removed about half of what was there as well. There also will apparently be a size limitation on images, currently under consideration is 15 k by 15 k.

Beautiful images Andrew. There's nothing colourful left in our garden. I've been clearing fallen leaves from the garden and the gutters the last few days.

Dave

Thanks Dave.

Our leaves are still falling so that would be premature for me. I do need to go outdoors and 'mow leaves' though before they get too deep. I have to do that several times in the fall or the mower will not make it through the fallen mess.

Also getting older Andrew - I do look on on the forum periodically - enjoy seeing the names and photos - thought its been a while since I commented - didn’t want anybody thinking the worst - so just letting you know I am still the best side of the grass. Sorry about the accident - not easy to get over once you reach a certain age - it was my eldest daughters wedding a month ago I will post you some photos - I'm not sure I have ever posted a photo of myself. Bye for now - so pleased to hear from you.

No need to be sorry! If I had not been lazy I could have taken a screen shot and identified the bird easily. But, thanks for the identification!

My iphone says it is a Myrtle Warbler but I defer to your identification as I plead ignorance!

Just happy to see your post!

Andrew
Turns out the Myrtle Warbler is a sub-species of the Yellow-rumped, according to Merlin. And this one appears to be a female. I like the nickname: Butterbutt, which you will not find on Merlin.

Yes, I've read that too. Only, I had high hopes for that site when DPR was closing down. But as it turned out it left a bad taste in the mouth. I know it's better now, but the taste remains.
