ON1 PhotoRaw 2026

OK, thanks! I better look into it.. never noticed it or paid attention.

Hi,

Installed and opened just to see if it would open. Installed fine. When I open it there is a moving bar in the lower right that says "Installing Assets". Hovering over it says "0 of 0 installed". Any idea what's going on? Closing says "Background tasks in process".
Yep this is normal; I don't know exactly what's being done during this process, but it's something I've come to expect from a major O1PR release.

Based on user experiences from previous years, I'd advise to just accept this long first start up and don't try to interrupt or foreshorten it. Some people ran into problems later if they tried to fight it or work through it.

Last night I installed 2026, started it, saw "Installing Assets" and thought OK, time to leave it alone and go watch a movie. I came back 90-ish minutes later and the "Installing Assets" process had completed; only then did I have a little play around with it.

Yep I'm on a desktop but still that right hand pane is a bit awkward in its initial configuration - it's the new UI for masking that has shaken things up a bit. I'll be doing a full edit for the weekend's paid shoot over the next few days so hopefully I'll come with an arrangement that works for my editing habits.

Right panel is so awkward. I've tried to increase real estate at the bottom just canceling filmstrip, but it is impossible to"turn the page" to a next or previous photo.

If you want to be equal, you have to be better...

I just checked and it says that ON1 photo raw 2026 vs 2025 has build-in Resize AI 2026. Hmmm, I have the standalone Resize AI 2023 and it was not cheap. Wondering if it would be worth considering to upgrade from 2025 for the build in resize AI plus all other functions mentioned here before.

I guess I could just try it and see.
I've just checked the High Quality setting in the Resize 2026 in the new Photo Raw and it still has the same major flaw as the previously-released plug-in. Any resize of any image with large areas of sky, etc. shows a horrible fine grid over the output image.

This has already been reported to ON1 and they have acknowledged the problem but it looks like they have released Photo Raw with the same flaw.

Look carefully at the image below and you'll see the fault.

The video labelled Customize Your Workspace to Edit Faster describes how to move some stuff around to relieve the cramping.

A few of the v2026 features could be useful to me, but I had already made a tentative decision to spend nothing on software updates for a while. That was finalized for Photo RAW when I learned that Win11 is now required. I'm hanging onto Win10 for another year with extended security updates.

I only saw this happening when it was generating a preview. Just for the edit mode though. But after it was done it disappeared.

Thanks a lot. Tip works as described!

Not sure how and when it can occured and if we can put into question ON1 Resize ,

I tried myself high quality with blue sky and cannot see this kind of artefacts. Instead I got a very clean sky with superb rendering of the text

Just to compare with a traditional resize X4 by FastStone

OK, that's interesting. Are you using the High Quality setting and do you have large areas of plain color, like on a sky?

I can reproduce this on several images and I have sent these to ON1.

They referred me to this Knowledge Base article for some more details

OK, also interesting. I agree that rendering of fine detail is excellent, it only shows up for me on areas without detail. I wonder if it is perhaps a Canon raw problem or maybe related to Windows OS? See my other response above for ON1' s reference.

Thanks for the heads-up. I won't delete resize AI 2023 anyway. It just works fine for me.

I honestly don’t recall. So far have only changed the language to English because the machine translated Dutch version is horrible. I would’ve expected it to copy the settings of 2025 but it hasn’t.

Just saw it on one photo, thought it was strange and then it disappeared. But will look out for it as I haven’t spent much time with it yet.

First, one has to make these changes in an "edit" mode and they cannot be done from "browse" - you won't find the tabs there in browse. Second, the labels are not very intuitive. They call the "layers" tab, "layers" and the "masking" tab, "properties. Nonetheless, it is very helpful though one still has to keep the left panel open and it consumes a fair amount of property on a laptop screen.

In Resize Settings you have an option "Tile reduction" - Normal/High. Set it to High.

The result is like this

Tlie reduction Normal - Left vs High - right

Tlie reduction Normal - Left vs High - right

It removed the tiles in that example, but reduced the apparent sharpness/contrast,

Resize AI is a disappointment in my early tests. Lots of artifact and undesirable results. See my separate thread with examples.

Got the upgrade, feels like speed has increased and some things work better for me.
  1. Is there any other way than creating layers for having a square frame around a 2:3 image?
  2. Do Haldclut LUTS work?

Right now I'm playing with "depth lighting" in Effects module

👍👍👍
