Hey everyone! I've had the opportunity to shoot with the new 100-500mm for the last few months and have been able to capture a number of various types of images with it on the S1RII. Feel free to ask me any questions!

All images here are from RAW files converted to JPEG in Adobe Lightroom / Lightroom Mobile

Full Disclosure, I work for LUMIX USA as a technical product specialist and the Sr. Social Media Manager. I am also the host of LUMIX Live on YouTube. Any images posted are my own and in no way part of LUMIX property.

Nice shots! Thank you for sharing! In your subjective view - how does the image quality of the lens compare to sigma 100-400?

Thanks for posting the examples. Mine is on preorder.

I've been shooting a lot of kids sports with a 70-200/2.8, which has enough range for small field events, but is too short for large field, like soccer. A 1.4x helps some. All on an S5iiX or, lately, an S1ii. The S1ii is really good for this, and the S5iiX was much better than I ever expected it to be. At times the action can get close, so the wide 100mm on the new 100-500 is another plus, along with the additional reach on the long end. The new lens should be perfect for me, but I'll have to push the iso at night. For now, the 70-200f2.8 is usually enough reach for evening baseball on the small kids fields under the lights anyway.

You got an S1 II, Joe???

Guess I am the last person on the planet still rocking an S5 II.

I got an S1ii a few weeks ago to ADD to my two S5iiX's. I use the S5iiX's primarily for video, which is where they really shine, but added the S1ii to get a faster burst rate with mechanical shutter for the kids' sports. I'm also liking the single switch to go from photo to video mode with completely independent settings for each. The S5iiX's work surprisingly well for the kids' sports, but 5 fps is a little slow, and the kids are getting faster, not slower, LOL.

Yeah, if it didn't overheati, the S1 II would be something of a no-brainer for me.

Check that: If it didn't overheat AND it had a linear timecode port.

Good reasons. My two S5iiX's will run unattended for an hour plus in 4k30p in the Texas summer heat in direct summer sunshine with no problems and I can sync up the long run continuous pocket recorder audio before slicing and dicing the three continuous tracks down to a 2 minute video so I don't need time code, LOL.

I haven't even tried long runs on the S1ii yet. The CF card does get warm, even shooting stills, but the camera body does not. I think the S1ii will be ok for an indoor interview for an hour run, but not in direct sunlight. I'll test it next year. Maybe.

The S1ii is a fine hybrid camera if 24mp is enough. I love the flip up/out screen, video/stills switch, responsiveness, lock switch, and burst rate options. My G9ii couldn't survive long run video in the sun, thus the S5iiX's, but it is my favorite m43 camera body and pairs nicely with the S1ii when using my long Olympus zoom lenses.

Per Panasonic website, the S1.2 is 8FPS in 14-bit and 10FPS in 12-bit while the S1R.2 is 9FPS in 14-bit and 10 FPS in 12-bit.

if you using mechanical shutter the S1R.2 is the better choice.

However, in electronic shutter, the S1.2 crushes the S1R.2 having faster FPS (70 over 40) but more importantly, barely noticeable rolling shutter being a faster readout sensor.

If primary purpose is video, the GH7 is the better choice over the slightly more stills oriented G9.2

with the MFT market mature, saturated and contacting, I see the G9.2 being discontinued leaving only GH-series moving forward. OM will have the scraps for stills.

My G9ii is used primarily as a long zoom stills camera, so it is fine for me. Agreed, the GH7 is more useful for video.

Yes, and both are much faster than the S5ii/X.

When I think I may need more megapixels, I still have a Sony A1. I prefer the S1ii 80% of the time and like working with the Lumix files, both raw and jpeg, over the Sony.

Every camera is a compromise. I think I am set for a while with the three Lumix ff bodies and several S lenses.

All I need now for L-mount is the new 100-500 lens.
