I'm currently using nikon F mount 85 f 1.4 with adapter on Z5II.

I'm shooting pets, and recently I dabble with video more and more...

The problem I have with 85 f 1.4 is strong focusing noise it produces when filming.

I'd like a lighter lens (up to 700 grams) and am open to 85 f 1.8 S or maybe some other third party option.

Looking for recommendation for 85 that can track faster moving subjects and is decent for recording movies.

Thanks!

I like this focal length quite a bit. I have both the 85 1.8 s which is optically great and the sigma e mount 90 2.8 which is also nice, aperture ring, plus tiny.

I think they would both be better than what you are using depending on what you want.

I bought my Z 85mm f/1.8 S used; it's sharp, contrasty, no focus issues.

I'd say the 85 1.8 S is a good start. You could either get the Nikon version (new), used, or if you want to save a bit more, the Viltrox 85 1.8 is also a good option (Matt Granger did a comparison of the two and he said for the money, it's good competitor and I think the optical differences and AF speed differences were rather minor, but the Viltrox is only $399 vs about $899 for the Z version if you buy it new). I have the OEM Z version and am very pleased with it but I think you'd be fine with either one. You could also check out some of the ones from companies like Sirui as I think they also have an 85mm Z option as do others but the Nikon OEM version and the Viltrox stuck out to me the most (plus I stopped paying attention to new releases though).

Haven’t tried others but the 85/1.8S is the favorite of my lenses. Purchased after reviewing a lot of posts on this forum and several internet reviews by folks I trust.
