My Sony A1 is at Ver1.2 - Should I update?

As per title my sony A1 is still at Ver 1.2

I'm a little confused as to wether I should update it to the latest firmware.

According to some posts I've read of others asking the same question. Some say leave it, some say the benefits and performance of updating is definitely worth it.

All the lenses I have for this body have never been updated, so I'm now wondering if I should or not?

Thanks in Advance.

From the Sony guide page above, the latest FW requires chronological steps - IAW, to have all previous FW increments installed. A jump from 1.2 to the current FW is not possible.
With FW 2.0 having "Bricked" several A1 by "killing" their wireless/Bluetooth section requiring a mainboard exchange, I see a certain risk here. Hence, make sure you update to 2.01 - not 2.0, see Sony's support page here for 2.01:

Actual A 1 owners having done all FW updates - can you confirm that Ver. 2.01 took care of that risky issue?

Should I myself buy a used A1 Mk I, I will make sure it has the latest FW installed and wireless/Bluetooth working as an indication the mainboard is stable. And I will ask whether the mainboard had to be changed after FW 2.0....

Cheers,
Ralf

No, definitely not. I upgraded and it killed the main board. It was an £800 repair for no good reason, I wish I could rewind time and not upgrade.

I have bought 2 x used A1 from a UK dealer, Park Cameras. With both bodies they updated to 2.01 at my request while I waited, so I could check all was ok. I then completed the purchase. I’ve since updated to 3.0. No issues.

I would suggest anyone buying used does the same kind of thing. I would not buy a used A1 on any variant of FW 1.x which would leave myself to take the risk of updating FW.

You wrote that you upgraded to 3.0 from 1. "something" here without mentioning which of the 2 versions of FW 2 you used in the mandatory incremental steps to get to 3.0. So in case you used 2.0 instead of 2.01 (you did not tell us), that was the culprit.
That killed it.

Important: FW 3 has no reports of killing A 1 that ran well on 2.01.
So to the OP, when you use 2.01 instead of 2.0 to get from your 1.2 to 1.32 then 2.01 and then 3.01 you should be save. Also see what Ray replied in this thread.
Cheers,
Ralf

2.01 I don’t think that 2.0 is even available n 2025

I think Ill just leave mine as is then. Don't want to risk it and doesn't seem there is a point in updating the firmware for my use I guess.
