I took the 24-70 f2.8 S II to Porsche Day at the Lyon Air Museum at John Wayne Airport.

The light was horrible with low sun so strong that it was difficult to see even with sunglasses. The contrast levels were therefore very high. I use a Profoto A1X for some images to try and balance the sunlight.

The lens nailed the focus instantaneously for every shot and seems plenty sharp, although perhaps not a massive improvement over the S I version.

Here's a few images.

Oh my goodness those photos look good. Lots of micro-contrast and pop! Seems like a killer lens
I think the photographer has something to do with that. :-D

Thanks. This was taken at the same venue earlier this year with the S I version. This version also produces nice images.

Great photos!!

Is that a B-25 Mitchell on the second image? Or what plane is it?

Same photographer, same good results, regardless of lens.

We ain’t need any 24-70/2.8 v2 😃

Thanks.

Yes it's a B-25J, part of the museum's permanent collection. They always pull one of their aircraft onto the tarmac at their regular car shows.

Thanks. Yes, both versions are excellent lenses. There's a few niceties on the S II.

I need to get my S I up for sale now to offset the cost of the S II.

Super sharp and colorful images! Thanks for sharing and fun to see. Have you tried the closer focusing abilities? I think that is a definite advantage over the earlier version if you like closeups.

Thanks.

Thank you.

How i would love to go to the US one day and visit museums and national parks and so on...

Perhaps i´ll win on the lottery some day...

Thanks.

I don't know if you saw my post of the obligatory cat image from earlier this week.

This is as close as I've used the S II so far.

Very nice but I only see a Martini, where's the Porsche. Glad you like the lens.

Now that the lens is released, maybe owners can tell us if HB-97 (sold with the 14-24 and used as a base for 112mm filters, usable with 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200 Z) is still compatible with the new lens...

I just tried the 112mm lens hood from the 14-24 f2.8 and it does NOT fit to the 24-70 f2.8 S II.

Thanks for posting the lovely closeup of your cat, and the results are fantastic and super sharp up close. Unlike many lenses that don't hold up when it comes to closeups.

Thanks Ernie. Glad you liked the image of Monty.

The lens seems to work very well under all conditions so far.

Thanks.

That is a soft cat.

Now, this is a hard cat. ;-) Not captured with the new v2 24-70/2.8, though. I didn't want to get too close.
