Recent YT's seem to suggest that as the last Nikon sensor, there may be some color magic in the D700.

Does anyone shoot one of these and have an informed opinion compared to something else?

Well, I don't own a Nikon digital so I just paid $214 for a D700.

I have plenty of other cameras.

We'll see what happens.
Well, you can't go wrong for that price! Even if you don't like the results, you can probably easily make your money back.

I bought a used one years ago ($400 CAD), sold it ($450 CAD), then bought another D700 ($400 CAD) last year. Pretty much a wash, but it's still used for fun. My D3 was still working properly at that time, and it was my main real estate camera, so the D700 was a backup. The one thing I didn't like for that purpose is the 95% viewfinder.

Will this Nikon Nikkor 28-200mm F/3.5-5.6 D IF (N/F N8008S) Autofocus Lens, autofocus on a D700?

I just downloaded the manual...

I find that the 14-140 stays on my gx9 pretty much 99.9% of the time.

I picked up the 28-200 because it will auto-focus. I have a couple of older f-mount (manual/non-cpu) lenses.

There should be no problem at all. 🙂
Image quality. I don't like any of the superzooms, no matter made by whom, for that reason.
You're correct, David; and in general, I agree with you. However... when it comes to either getting the photo or missing out, super zooms do have an advantage. My preference is to use two cameras, each with a different lens.

Grsnovi, you'll have to buy another Nikon (and lens or two)! 😄

I don't foresee the D700 as becoming a contender for an EDC.

I'll mostly be curious to see how a 12mp FF camera fits into my existing world where my mFT gx9 is probably my most used camera.

They're all just tools. You'll probably always enjoy using the GX9 more, as that's what you know and trust already.

I had Nikon F90X, N2020, FA, FE2, F2A and Nikkormat FT film bodies; then a Fuji S1, S2, S5, Nikon D200, D300, D300s, and D800 DSLRs before finally getting my first used D700. It's a good camera, just not usually the best.
Ah, the hunt for the best camera…

What was that apocryphal anecdote?

Ernest Hemingway: I love your photographs. What camera do you use?

Ansel Adams: I love your short stories. What typewriter do you use?
