Hi guys. Yesterday I bought and collected a brand new X100VI though I won't use it until I've bought all my accessories. I can't decide on a half case that was recommended to me or the Smallrig L plate.

Here's the half case:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/MUZIRI-KIN...8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1

Here's the Smallrig:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/SMALLRIG-Handgrip-FUJIFILM-Lightweight-Silicone/dp/B0CYGX3Z83?th=1

I don't actuality want to add either since the camera is beautiful but I don't have much choice as I need to protect the camera and need a better grip. A youtube reviewer showed photos of scratches on his silver battery door after a few months of use. He said because the bottom is magnesium alloy while the top is anodised aluminium.

The Smallrig has a great grip though the baseplate does add a bit to the height. The half case has an extra bit of grip, not quite as deep as the Smallrig but looks fine, but I'm not keen on how the grip side of leather slightly overextends and almost touches the front wheel. Other half cases meet exactly where the silver changes to black but then they don't have the extra grip.

Which do you think would be the better option, half case or Smallrig? If you think the half case, black or brown? I'm blinging the camera with a brass soft shutter button and a thin light tan/light brown neck strap.

I bought this one and very much liked it

I suspected the finger lump on the half case you linked to would have annoyed me a lot, and I personally hate the shape of L-bracket style grips. YMMV.
Hi Jeff. I really like the look of the Smallrig half case. But I presume the grip won't be any less shallow and any easier to hold?
Well, it does add a bit of depth and—more importantly—the material is grippier than the leatherette on the camera, which is quite hard and glossy. I wouldn’t want anything more bulky, but maybe you do, I don’t know. I’m happy enough with a bare X100 to be honest, but the half case gives protection to the base and adds tactility.

I have both the SmallRig grip and the SmallRig half case.

Mostly I use the half case (together with a thumb grip). Its easy to hold and provides more protection.

They are both very well made and fit the camera perfectly.

I have the SmallRig half case, I wish the grip were smaller but it’s workable.

Thanks @ Jeff and Greybeard.

I'm not sure what you mean by smaller? I might still buy the Smallrig case but do you mean you don't find it easier to grip than without the case?

I also bought the Smallrig case. However I bought the "kit" which includes an added piece that covers the entire camera. I use it when the cam is stored.

The leather part of the grip is sufficient for holding. Since I pack it in my waist pack as an everyday carry I do not use the provided strap. Lastly, the "half-case" provides enough stability so I do not need to use a thumb grip. YMMV.

Do you mean "fanny pack" like The Rock wore? 😉😂

Lovely, thanks. I'll go ahead and put the Smallrig half case in the Amazon basket. 👍

Hi, congrats on you new x100VI. Black or silver? I got mine in black in Feb 24 and have since taken it on three holidays.

I like leather half cases. They improve the handling and provide some protection for the base when setting the camera down.

I bought one from herodream888 off eBay. It is the fourth such case I have had from them, the others being for my old XE4 and XT4 and my current XT5. They are leather, well made, have black stitching and fit well.

I would be concerned about the one in your link as the leather comes up very close to the front command dial, where I would question if one's finger could operate the dial easily.

My other accessories include:
  • Fuji weather resistance kit with its Fuji EBC protect filter.
  • JJC inverted lens hood; screws onto the adaptor ring over the filter.
  • 49mm Breakthrough Photography CPL X4.
  • Peak Design leash.
  • A 100x120mm neoprene lens case into which the camera with hood mounted fits (for carrying in a man-bag).
  • WCL II and TCL II.
Good luck with your choice.

Thank you, appreciate your thoughts and I bought the silver. Yes, agreed about the leather which was something I mentioned being concerned about in my opening post. It does come up close to the front wheel which as you say could be problematic plus aesthetically it doesn't look as good by not stopping where the silver part of the body starts.

I like your leather half case but that's more than twice the cost of the Smallrig half case I've decided to buy instead.

I feel the SmallRig grip is exaggerated, especially compared to their other half cases I’ve owned and used. I prefer a small ridge.

I bought the Muzuri Kinokoo in the coffee color a couple weeks ago. So far I really like it, the slightly larger grip compared to the bare body really helps with my slightly large hands. The leather is quality and the tolerances are tight. Hope that helps.

No problem with the command dial unless you have gorilla hands. Now that I look at it, should have gotten black.

I've got the MUZIRI KINOKOO half case. I've been really pleased with mine, it's well made / fits well and the small inbuilt grip significantly aids handling in my opinion, compared to the bare camera. I've never used a grip so cant compare. Also as OP said protects the camera. Personally I Iike the look of half cases.

Not sure if you are referring to the body or the case. I do like the sliver/brown combination (sometimes wish I had opted for this colour combination), but here is my chic, sleek and debonair black version:

[ATTACH alt="Google AI defines "Chic," "sleek," and "debonair" as: "are all positive adjectives that describe a stylish and sophisticated appearance, though with slightly different nuances: chic refers to fashionable elegance, sleek implies a smooth, streamlined, and modern aesthetic, while debonair describes a man who is confident, charming, and gracefully stylish with polished manners.""]media_4449116[/ATTACH]

I think I can live with Google AI's view! I am now imagining countless rolling of eyes across the forum!

Consider the Fuji case. Well made except cannot accommodate thumb grip or lens hood. However, works with NiSi filter and OEM lens cover. Otherwise works great.

Good luck.
