I was walking along Oxford Street yesterday and saw a group of guys lining up across the pavement with their cameras, so I had to ask for a pose

Turns out they are all carrying Leica's

So, being a nice guy I put this in the Leica forum in case any of them saw it just to say hi as it were from a Fuji shooter

Sadly the mod decided that this wasn't appropriate for his forum and took it down before many could actually see it

Pity, really

Can't even advertise their cameras in their own forum. Must be the "Only Use Leica" forum

Looks like they are all lining up to photograph the new Ikea store 😹 on Oxford street.

I hope you shared you are photographing with a 44x33 camera.

Ask them to reconsider. Many MF owners also own Leicas AND there have been no issues if a Leica image is posted on this forum. Let's see if an MF MOD deletes this post containing a Leica image. 😉

Sadly that ship has sailed as we exchanged a message or 2. Not going into that, but I’ve left it up to him to reconsider his actions as I posted for the benefit of the shooters themselves and not me

Wonder what types street photographs they were taking rush hour afternoon saturday thousands upon thousands people shoppers teeming on oxford street regent street bond street.

Reckon they are visiting from outside London, only a few hours for them to photograph.

Else would been easier for them to get plenty interesting street photographs early morning, dusk, night. Also autumn winter when the shadows get long early, there's some fog, evening lights turn on early.

Actually, the Leica Users Forum isn't quite so restrictive.

1. It allows posting photos from any camera or lens in the "L mount" series. It used to require that either the camera or lens be Leica, but I think that's been relaxed.

2. The board has at least two major threads (Film and 6x6) that allow posting of any film photo of any make--which I actively participate in. I do own a Leica film camera but overwhelmingly post Blad film photos there.

3. The board allows discussion of any camera or lens. So, for example, there is a vigorous discussion of Blad digitals. Generally (I acknowledge that this is a simplistic statement), Leica users prefer Blads to Fujis for their "color science," design, and overall coolness (and maybe for their price!). Of course, once the S4 comes out (if it ever does), they will rush back to that.

Utterly bizarre attitude.

Great, fun shot though.

All about tribes and exclusive clubs.

It is sad that people who supposedly love the art and craft of photography are more interested in the brand name used to take a photo than the photo itself. I struggle to imagine someone like (say) Michael Kenna rejecting an image on the grounds it wasn't taken with (say) a Hassie.

Wannabes.

I've long suspected that the unique success of DPR forums is based largely on their arrangement into brands and the tribalism that encourages. No idea whether than was pure accident or a clever and cynical marketing decision. Whatever the origin, it works.

FredMiranda.com also uses the tribal organization. It's not as granular as DPReview. The four main tribal subforums are Canon, Nikon, Sony and Fuji. There are also a lot of presentation boards, which get a lot of traffic.

The "Alternative Gear" forum on FM used to be a fun mishmash, but when it became the "Leica and Alternative Gear" forum, it became more Leica than alternative.

People on the Leica boards that comment a lot, every day, remind me of someone with Corvette split window coupe with 5000 original miles on it. You got one, good for you, and look at you not using it.

It is easier for me to not use my X-T5, or my Oly E-1

I had a '63 in high school. Put about a million miles on it. Always wondered where it ended up.
going off topic but I can't resist. In 1964 when i was a young kid (not in my teens yet), loving fast cars, my older sister had a suitor who was in the reserves. He had to do a week away in training and thus, a week away from his newly purchased '63 split window Vette. He entrusted the car to my sister who then became my 24 hour chauffeur. Loved every second but she did drive it somewhat conservatively. :(

I'm surprised the mod(s) deleted your photo. I've posted non-Leica pics there a number of times without incident. And there wasn't even any Leica gear shown in the pics. :-)

I suspect if you'd put the pic in the Monthly Photo Thread it would've survived.

Addendum: a fair bit of projection going on in this thread IMO.

I think the Leica Users Forum is heavily subsidized by Leica itself. If this is true, it certainly has a right to set guardrails.

Leica is a small, privately owned company struggling against increasingly challenging market conditions, including the new tariffs and rising labor costs (I believe it's the last major camera company in Europe, right?). It doesn't have the deep pocket support of (say) Fuji (which is primarily a health care company now) or Hasselblad (owned by DJI) or Sony, Nikon, or Canon. Leica has come close to bankruptcy a number of times in the past, and, while its recent profits seemed robust (at least until this year), it can't take anything for granted.

So, while we all make fun of the red dot. the world of photography would be a little less interesting without it. In fact, for some of us, a lot less interesting.

Editorial control of the Leica Users Forum can be irksome even to those of us who participate. But we also have to understand the psychology and economics behind these decisions.
