My camera equipment was stolen...

My grandson had a friend over and a bunch of things went missing. I'm working on replacing my equipment, I have an OMD EM10 in my cart. Recommendations on lenses?
If the thief is an adult, call the police. You know who the thief is.

If the thief is not an adult, call the parents.

If you let it slide it will happen again. And again. And again.
I was in and out of the hospital last year, that's when it disappeared. So we have no proof. The thief was a teenager, brought in by my grandson, who naively taught him how to get around our security system. Fortunately, he moved out of state. But I need my hobby back.

I have other lenses that would not be compatible with the Panasonic, although I had one of their long zoom models that I loved.
I have adapted 50-200 SWD, 14-54, and my much loved 50/2 macro. Apart from the macro, I’ve moved on from the others although the 14-54 is sitting on an EM1 in my cupboard.

Modern MFT lenses are better wide open and AF faster than adapted FT lenses.

The Panasonic 50-200mm is a good replacement for the Zuiko 50-200mm and the Panasonic Leica 12-60mm for the 14-54 or 12-60 SWD. The G9 would be a sensible body for those. I’d be tempted to buy them from a reputable used dealer with warranty.

Alternatively, the OM 40-150/2.8 is an excellent lens, as is the 12-40/2.8. I would have thought the EM10.4 is a bit small to wrangle the 40-150/2.8.

If your other lenses are adapted FT lenses, I’m not sure they will AF very well on the EM10.4 because it doesn’t have PDAF. All the MFT lenses will be fine.

I greatly sympathize with both your plights.

However, nothing precludes you from making a police report, hopefully with the serial numbers, which may possibly get your equipment back eventually, or even get the thief to justice.

He moved out of state, I'm sure he had no idea that my camera bag and contents were worth about $3,000.
And he probably got $100 if he was lucky, and that went to his pusher. My heart goes to you.

OM5ii would be a much better choice than the obsolete E-M10 if you can afford it.

I loved everything about my previous kit, tried to duplicate it as best I could. Bought a couple of used lenses at B&H (I trust them) and a new body, also a used flash. I have had a difficult year due to three surgeries and 14 blood transfusions. Looking for a reason to get out of the house.
Good luck and I hope you have a speedy recovery!

What is your budget?

I spent almost 3G replacing my equipment, some used micro 4/3 lenses and an FL-50 as well as a new body. They arrive on Wednesday, got them from B&H because I trust them.

Good luck with the new gear! I hope that your photos are awesome!

I am so sorry about what happened, especially when it involves à family member. But, I'd rather someone steal my camera, than my photos. I hope you have them backed up? And enjoy your new gear.

I trust all is ok health wise

Happy shooting those deer🦌

He is the son of my stepdaughter, is way too trusting and the kid we think did the theft lives in the north end of Flint, I wouldn't go there for fear of risking my life.
Sad to see such things happen when you try to be helpful to someone.
He has lived with us for five years because he hates his mother. They don't have the money to replace it but fortunately, we do.
I am reading the highlighted part as referring to your stepdaughter's son. Hope he learned a good lesson too (at your expense, of course).

I like how you are thinking about money vs. family. It is a big loss monetarily, but your attitude gives you peace of mind. No grudge or hard feelings.
I stuck with Olympus because I have a lot of other lenses I can use once I get the new camera body.
I saw your update about buying the gear from B&H. Hope you like it and enjoy making some photos.

For your intended purposes, the experience of going out with light gear, the process of making some photos, and engaging with nature, are all good. Hope that works out well for you.

All the best.
