Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

Thanks for stopping by .....
I love your older shots. Makes me want to dust off the E-20 and C-8080 and have a go. What sort of equipment were you using back then?
Looking back at this time I was using the E-30 and for these pictures probably the Olympus 70-300mm lens that did some macro or the Sigma 105mm macro lens.

WhyNot

Nice shot looks good but all digital cameras after they got to 6MP produced decent and better results... I started Olympus with the e-520 and E-30 and was waiting for the E-30 Mk ii When they dropped DSLR and joined Panasonic with Micro 4/3rds and so did I ! ..... never got interested in going back to use the original versions of the DSLRs ....

WhyNot
That's understandable, seems most here have left DSLRs behind. But there's a reason I'm odd. Lately I've been having more fun using adapted old manual focus lenses than anything. Here's a pair of shots I took with a Elicar 90mm f/2.5 macro. I'm new to macro and 1:1 handheld sure gets tiring quick. I don't have a ring flash so I had to settle with a FL-50.

Those little beetles were tiny.

The two lenses are close in focal length, Andrew, but they are very different to use. To be honest I hadn't bought anything for quite a while and B&H had a good price on both of them. The Tokina was on sale new and the Sigma was used. I thought of the marine lab when I bought the fisheye. All three are F mount and need a large, heavy FTZ adapter to mount to Z.

I haven't used them enough to pick a favorite. The Tokina 11-16 will be hard to beat, and I like its focus motor which works fine and sounds like when you turn on the garbage disposal with a fork in it.

I shouldn't tease the funny-looking (either way) Kia. I've never owned a better car.

Sadly, I have been accosted for photography with a big camera, too. They will ignore people with cell phones but a big camera spooks them. I am gun-shy now, too.

That valley and the hills around it is all cattle country. Dairies on the flat and beef in the hills. I lived among them the first five years I was here. Not many horses anymore, mostly tractors, atvs, and pickup trucks. I like horses but I haven't been able to ride one since 1971 when I had cervical 1-4 fused. Lots of high income people around here have horses as pets and don't ride them very often. I agree riding and showing off horses is mostly a girl thing. The San Fernando Valley where I grew up has lots of stables around the perimeter. Griffith Park has lots of stables and trails and there used to be Spahn Ranch. When I wanted to date a popular girl who had lots of guys to choose from, I'd invite her to go riding. That always worked. Rich

I like your insects, WhyNot, except the grasshoppers. Those things have made me nervous since I watched "Beginning of The End" in 1957 as an 8 year old. Enormous, irradiated grasshoppers eating people had a life-long effect on me. 🫣 Rich

A gorgeous flower Craig. I'm assuming you're back in the good old US of A. In any case, it's good to see you here again. Hope all is well.

Dave

Thanks Rich. It's a beautiful location and I had it all to myself. Just how I like it.

Dave

Thanks Andrew.

I do occasionally ride from home but mostly put the bike in the car and drive somewhere nice and quiet. I make a point of avoiding roads that carry lots of traffic.

The bike weighs around 25kg without the battery which weighs another 3-4kg. The front wheel is quickly detachable which makes the bike easier to fit in the car. I bought an ebike to give it a try and I'm hooked.

Dave

It's a lovely location Chris and quiet too.

Dave

You should avoid these dizzy heights Rich, altitude sickness can be serious.😂

Love the pano.

Dave

Some lovely artwork there Andrew. I especially like that pottery.

How were the prices? These places can be expensive.😊

Dave

The butterflies are gorgeous as is the hawk. Even the blue jay makes for a nice image.

Here am I cycling or walking for miles to find things to photograph and you sit at home and all this wonderful subject material comes to you. Doesn't seem fair 😕.

Dave

A very nice set of images WN.

To me they indicate that the equipment is secondary to the ability of the photographer. The ability of the photographer remains high. Keep up the good work.

Dave

Beautiful light Dicky. Summer is slowly coming to a close here which means Autumn is just around the corner. My favourite time of year for photography.

Couldn't agree more about time flying by, Christmas is on its way. Jeez what a thought.

Dave

The redwoods are magnificent Rich. Mother Nature's handiwork can be really impressive.

You didn't do the Kia any favours with that image. I mean it's not a great looking car to begin with but you somehow managed to make it look even worse.😉

Seriously, they make pretty good cars these days.

Dave

Welcome to this thread!

A lovely result with the old E-1 and lens. I still have both but neither has seen the light of day for a few years now. Not much point in selling them. From your other posts I see you recently purchased and old Canon. Nice to be young and able to carry such beasts about. The E-1 was my first serious digital camera after a time with a small 'point and shoot' model ($1000 at the time of purchase!)

Andrew
I took said Canon to the zoo yesterday, however forgot the neck strap. Tis a heavy beast to carry round with no strap, I feel my right arm is 4"longer!
