I recently returned from a trip to Kenya. I've started culling and processing the images from this 11 day journey. Here are a dozen for starters...

Stunning images, Glenn!

Stunningly beautiful. Glenn, if this is just for starters, I can't wait to see the rest of your images! Really like the composition, and your eye for when to have the animal in a sea of grass or other 'sameness', vs when to add visually interesting context to the animal. The Elephant at Maasai Mara National Reserve is a great example of the latter, with the layers of colors in the background and the tree behind the elephant...really enjoy the composition.

Thank you for sharing these!

Outstanding; cats are the best. Thanks for not over saturating them like so many do. Felt like I was there.

Great stuff. Care to indulge us: which camera(s), which lenses? Did anyone have something to say about that rhino’s incredibly long horn?

In particular, which lenses did you find most useful?

Lovely images, every single one!

Very well composed and framed shots. The colors are wonderfully delicate, not too saturrated, just enough to make them set the scene in a pleasing way.

Great work Glenn! I really enjoyed the show!

These are all so totally lovely and thank you for sharing. The processing is very tasteful, with a fine art look. What was your processing like? I thought your EXIF data usually came through. I miss seeing what you shot them with. Thanks again.

Excellent! Your processing is alway wonderful.

Thanks so much for commenting. I have several hundred more photos to edit.

Thanks for your feedback. I received some constructive criticism on these indicating the photos were desaturated and lacking in contrast. I was going for a more realistic look...especially since several of these were captured in foggy conditions.

Thank you...

I used the Nikon Z9 with the 400 2.8 TC for 90% of my photos. I used the Z7ii with the 70-200 2.8 for the remaining 10%. There were a few photos captured with the 24-70 2.8 and one photo (the chameleon) with the 105 VR.

Oh...and regarding the rhino...yes, people were commenting about the long horn until we saw several others with even longer horns.

Thanks for the feedback...much appreciated! I had received some feeback about the photos being lacking in saturation and contrast to the point that the viewer thought they were unedited raw files. I was going for exactly the look you described!

Thanks Ernie...I don't know why the EXIF didn't come through during my Lightroom export. It appears that the settings should have allowed it.

The processing wasn't much different than my usual approach. I bring the files into LR using a Nikon Camera Flat profile so that I can start from scratch. I make some global adjustment in LR to exposure, white and black points, vibrancy and white balance if needed. I then open the file in Photoshop and make a number of selective edits. Usually I make certain adjustments to the subject and other adjustments to the background. Typical subject adjustments include a curve adjustment for added contrast and then adding sharpening. For the background I might make some color adjustments and maybe introduce a bit more blur...sometimes I add a slight vignette.

Most of these photos were captured with the Nikon Z9 and the 400 2.8 TC lens. A few were with the Z7ii and the 70-200 2.8. The chameleon photo was with the 105 VR.

Nice shots.

I’m going in November. Mind if I ask what lenses and focal lengths you got the most use out of?
