Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

I used to have one of them in my garden Dave it had both colures pink and blue had to dig it out in the end it was taking over.

I hope for some better weather two for photography and cycling

Paul

Thanks Dave.

I have not seen many dragon flies here since the large blue spruce was cut down and the garden beneath it sodded. None in the fields either and there are usually some to be seen. Not sure what the farm below is doing since I can not see it in summer once the trees leaf out. The field behind the house that went down to the farm below has turned into a forest over the years we have been here. All the tall weeds and brambles are gone. That could have something to do with the butterflies but I suspect the farmers are to blame with the insecticide use.

They are beautiful Dave. Either you have the correct soil type for the flowers to be blue or some one is diligent in amending it. The pink colour requires a different soil type but in fact is the same flower as the blue one. Ours, except two, are the white variety, Annabelle I think but ????

School does not start here until the Tuesday after Labour Day, so early September. I no longer have to go back!!! I do miss it but times have changed, and not for the better!

Andrew

Thanks, Dave. I'd send the beautiful skies to you if I knew how, but not today's sky. It is socked in overcast today, not on the ground, but everything is gray and dull. And, it's forecast to be on the ground fog tomorrow. 😭 Rich

Where? I don't see it! ;-) What, no roo focusing mode in that model?

You must have lots of native fauna and flora you could share with us. Please do! It is always a pleasure to see creatures from your area of the world that are very different to what we see here in the north.

Motor sport race photos were sometimes featured here in the past we are all getting older here and have lost some contributors along the way. Most have just wandered off to the other forum or other aspects of life.

I'm about the same vintage as you Rich, so you could easily manage this trail just fine.

The more I use it, the more I like this lens.

As a RAW shooter, I didn't think I'd be using the Creative Dial that much, but the SOOC JPG's look fine to me.

This one isn't wide enough, Gary. I didn't have the 8mm fisheye with me this day but I did have the 7-14 to shoot this 1950 Studebaker. 114° wasn't as good as 180°. The lens was just a few inches from the bullet nose. Rich

Well not quite as I'm going to mix in a few a few from this last week.. I wasn't happy with any of these pictures but wanted to just stop by so here they are .. A yellow Finch from a decade and a little more ago ...

I was also had a small flock of hummingbirds stop by that year

And a second that I thought I'd play with so some recent processing

And finally some geese on the water from a decade ago

and more recently and the flock has grown as these birds tend to do .....

Now a couple more recent birds the posed for me on an overcast day ... Our current reigning mockingbird the manages all the birds in the yard ...

And finally a current member a the flock of Finches that are quickly eating our supply of seeds ,,,

This last is a sad tale I fear ... That red eye is conjunctivitis. This eye is inflected and her other eye I have seen and won't show here looks to already be blind ... The disease comes from contaminated feeders usually and I cannot say it wasn't ours (I hope not) as they are difficult to keep clean when this flock is emptying them, at least, once a day ... we try ..

I'll try to find something better next time .....

Great shot Rich!

That thing looks like it's ready for takeoff!

I've heard that the 8mm is wider than the 7-14mm, which seems odd to me, but aside from the bulging, unprotected front lens, the compactness of the 8mm really appeals to me.

Strauss Bascule Bridge in Port Lands section of Toronto, Canada. Moveable type of bridge built in 1930 and still in operation is constantly requiring service due to complicated mechanism. Mr. Strauss is also credited with design of suspension type - Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California which was unveiled in 1937.
