Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

Thanks, Andrew. Sequoia Park is 2 miles from home. I used to walk to the park from home but I can't do it anymore. We're in our typical summer pattern. Fog one day, overcast the next, then a day or two of clear sky. Puffy individual clouds are rare in summer so I appreciated this sky.

The fires in forested land really worry me. Canada and our Pacific Northwest have so much forested land. I worry about the prospect of really huge fires, much larger than we have ever seen.

You made me think of my Dad when I would go out to weed with him, starting when I was a toddler. I would crawl around with him for hours enjoying every moment as he teased me and told me jokes. He would advise me that I must get the roots or it would just come back. He planted our front yard in dichondra and clover. It's nice to play on and doesn't need mowing but every weed stands out like a sore thumb.

I wish you rain...and us, too. Rich

According to Stellarium, that point of light at 4 o'clock to the Moon is delta Sagittarius.

Lovely pano Rich and what a beautiful garden. The Z8 shows off the details of the dahlias nicely.

Still not much rain here and the summer flowers seem to be finishing early. The grass has started to turn green again after a few showers.

An interesting capture David. Wild fires are a current plague of our own doing unfortunately! Nothing that noticeable here, but we do have haze in the air accompanied by smell and taste.

Beautiful images of the Swallowtail Andrew and I love the colours of the images.

I've seen very few butterflies here over the summer but I've not travelled far from home either.

Thanks, Pete. That lovely garden is one of my favorite places for photography. You're looking at one third of it. The rest is behind my POV.

No rain here, either, but it does not rain here in summer. The hot interior here is on fire in several places. The fires don't affect us here on the coast as the Pacific flow keeps the smoke from coming here and we get fog every night to keep things moist. Rich

I would love to visit the Antrim coast, Paul. I recently discovered a fast, small ferry service runs from Campbeltown on the Kintyre peninsula to Ballycastle taking about 90 minutes for the crossing. That's the good news.

However the return trip costs £150 and leaves Campbeltown, which is 95 miles from where I live, at 6.30 in the morning. The return trip leaves Ballycastle at 16.30 giving me 8 hours to explore. I'm tempted but the logistics are problematic.

Beautiful garden under a beautiful sky, Rich.

If I could grant wishes I would send you some of our abundant rain in return for a little of your wonderful skies.

Great shots of the butterfly Andrew. They've been in short supply lately, I guess they dislike the rain as much as I do.

Never had much success photographing them, they flutter off if I approach. Rich has the same effect which, in his case, is perfectly understandable . I find him scary at times.😄

I didn’t know about the Campbeltown ferry to Ballycastle Dave It’s a pity it doesn’t take cars there also a Rathlin ferry to ballycastle that takes cars I’m not often in ballycastle and to be honest to explore the coast the way u would want for ur 8 hours u would need a hired car adding a lot more expenses onto a expensive crossing I have often thought of going to Rathlin Island apparently I can use my bus pass for free travel but havent made it yet Paul

the other thing I forgot to mention Dave is from june - august into early September the coast can get very busy with tourists after 9 in the morning

ps had u any power cuts

Storm Floris passed us by and caused only minor damage. No power cuts Paul. How about you?

Blue could easily describe my feelings lately. The weather has been less than kind and the desire to pick up a camera somewhat lacking.

The hydrangea has taken over a corner of the garden.

It has even ventured outside our garden.

The school kids should go back to school next week and this usually brings some better weather. I live in hope.

A couple OM System fisheye captures in a local park. The first is standard color mode with the OM-3; the second is the SOOC jpg, using the Creative Dial in Art Setting (Pinhole effect).
