New RX100 VIII coming from Sony

Give Sony a few more years and they'll get there with the A7 range.

more than a rx10 more than a leica

more than more capable cameras

$$ sony overpriced on everything they sell
If by some miracle they ever did release a RX100M8, it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was basically 2K. Because there's no competition anymore + tariffs.
Even without competition there are limits to what most people will pay.

He's spoofing. There's no such camera to pre-order.

RIP Sony RX100 VIII with no sign of life and beyond existence even we all predicted it will come. Reason is too expensive this new camera and may not sell well

There is no new camera, just the degraded RX1007A.

It took 10 years to get a new changed RX1 (note I didn't say updated/improved) so on that schedule about 2029 we'll see an RX100M8 maybe with a USB-C port and little else.

Sony may wait to see how well the RX1R M3 sells before deciding on a RX100M8. That might indicate whether the market for small cameras still exists. Just think how big a RX100M8 market could be if sufficient improvements are made: every RX100M1 - RX100M7 owner could potentially upgrade.

Different markets, the RX1 series lurks in the Leica camera jewellery territory, the RX100 series is for keen compact camera users who want something versatile. So success with one of those does not relate to how the other might do.

Then there will never be an M8 because the RX1R M3 is so expensive it almost guarantees low sales.

Never say never ..... is the lesson Digital Nigel learned.

I'm not saying there will never be an M8. I'm saying if Sony waits for high sales figures for the RX1R M3 there won't be because they won't sell many. Because I can't predict the future I can never be positive about future RX cameras. Nigel is far more confident in his predictions than I could ever be.

I don't think Sony expects to sell RX1R IIIs like hotcakes, although apparently demand is higher than supply right now. I really don't think sales, good or bad, will have any determination on whether or not a new RX100 will be developed. That'd be like VW guessing how many Audi A4s they'll sell based on Bugatti sales.

I suspect production will be based on the number ordered so limited supplies are inevitable.

Indeed, with products in this category, it's best to deliberately under-produce, so they seem rare and valuable. It also discourages dealers from discounting before Sony is ready to do so.
