Call me crazy, but I'd really love it if Canon would release an updated EOS M.

Just copy the exact same small body form factor. Exact same size, weight & dimensions.

I wouldn't even care much if back LCD panel stayed fixed. But updated to a higher rez would be cool and with the latest image processor.

Just bring back the same old Canon color rendition. I somewhat recently bought an original EOS M (white model) and absolutely love it...everything except it's overall shooting speed & responsiveness, of course.

How I wish Canon would go back to the cute, compact stylings of the original Canon EOS M! There's a huge advantage in portability going small.

For the record: I also have a newer M6 mark ii and like that camera, too. But even the M6.2 smallish body feels huge in comparison to the wonderful tiny M.

Attn Canon: bring back a retro replica of the original Canon EOS M :)

I'm sure I can't be the only person that wants one.

I would rather have an updated modern M3. 😃

I think most of us would have been thrilled with a new body pursuant to any previous EOS M configuration if it had DIGIC X and IBIS.

Most definitely the M3 is a superior camera compared to the 1st M. But again, I'm not focused on the original M capabilities here. I'm purely focused on size & weight; the compactness of the camera body. The M & M2 were the smallest bodies in the entire EOS M lineup. Give me that; I want to go back to that, Canon.

Try an M2. It is obviously nowhere near the speed of a modern camera, but it is noticeably faster than the original M. Depending on which lenses you are using and your shooting scenario, there are many instances where the M2 can even be faster than the M3.

I tried to find an M2. Here in Canada, they are not cheap on the used market. Significantly more expensive than the M.

The M2 was never sold in North America. The easiest and generally cheapest route is to import an M2 from Japan via one of the numerous Japanese camera stores selling on eBay. Not sure what you paid for your M, but M and M2 prices are pretty close on eBay (roughly $250-$300 USD)

Good to know. I bought my EOS M online at KEH.com as they are very trustworthy/reputable. I *almost* bought thru eBay...but at the time I was looking, all prices seemed a bit over-inflated. I bought my M for $200 USD, maybe that was too much? But again, there seemed to be a temporary mark-up of M2 bodies for a while. Maybe I just bought at the wrong time or wasn't patient enough to wait for lower prices.

Exchange rate - $200 US = $275 Canadian and $300 US = $411 Canadian. Not cheap :(

There are two or three of reasons for that. 1. wireless connectivity, 2. it's even dinkier and 3. its focussing isn't quite as slow. I bought mine from Japan via eBay.

Me too, lovely camera, great colors, af completely usable but M6 i/ii and M50 i/ii are in a completely different league.

I still use it because it is the smallest M camera I own (not by a great margin but still)

Because Canon has retired the M mount and the R mount is considerably bigger the closest you’re going to get is the R50v.
R for Ridiculous size of a mount (for an APS-C camera). They should have stuck to the EF-M mount.

Dream on!

Canon won't listen. Last year I moved on to Sony full frame A7C II and sold all Canon gear.

No regrets and not looking back. I have condensed my formerly extensive equipment to the basics.

I bought into canon efm big time because it was an exact fit for me -size and price and quality. When the canon rumors about killing the system appeared, I bought up all the new stuff I figured I would like to have. There is nothing else like it and probably will never be again. I don't even look at what is out there now because there is no good reason. So- with a discontinued system ,a gear-centric forum really has no value any more except for some odd forums here related to things like retouching, printing, macro and an occasional challenge. Oh yeah-I forgot the open BS forum also.I figure I'm pretty much done with cameras now and between AI and phones it's probably the right choice. Now , taking pics is all I have to be concerned about. Tough break -eh?

Is it possible for Canon to just make the M cameras again? Keep specs the same.

I have an M2 in white and it's a favorite. I leave the 22/2 on it. Sooc color is always good and the images sharp.

I've stuck with Canon since my first SLR, a Ftb with a 50 1.4, but I think I'm probably good for the duration. Turning 76 next month.

Highly unlikely. No M camera was built with Canon's current DIGIC X. The older DIGIC 8 may no longer be available and plenty of other parts inside the camera may also be discontinued. Even if every part is available, only the M6 II would be possible as it is the only one with USB C charging. None of the other M cameras have USB C charging which would make them unsellable in the EU.

Even if Canon could build them, how would they sell them? Aside from a few M diehards that are hoarding M cameras, who else is going to buy a camera from a previously discontinued system? Canon would also need to have lenses for sale for this camera, but which ones? It is a giant logistical mess with virtually zero benefit to Canon. Canon killed the M mount because they needed to standardize on one single mount for the long term success of the company. Resurrecting the M system runs counter to their long term goals.

Realistically, the only real hope is that Canon takes the basic design of the M100/M6 and mates it with the guts of the 22mm f/2.0 to create a fixed lens compact like the Fuji X100 series.
