Hi DPReview community,

I have some exciting news to share today! I'm pleased to introduce Mathew Anderson, who has joined the DPReview team as our very first Community Manager.

We've never had someone in this role before, and it represents a significant investment in our forums and all of you. The forums have always been the heart of the DPReview community, and we're actively working to make them a better, more engaging place.

So, what exactly does a Community Manager do? Think of Mathew as your dedicated connection to our team. His job is to represent the voice of the community within our business, making sure your feedback, ideas and concerns are incorporated into the decisions we make.

Mathew will also be working behind the scenes on various projects to help improve our forums, so while you might not interact with him every day, he's here as a resource for you. If you ever have questions, need help with something on the forums or just want to share your thoughts, don't hesitate to send him a message.

I'm excited to welcome Mathew to our online community and the DPReview team!

Thanks Dale for the introduction.

Greetings and salutations, DPReview community!

It’s an honor to join such a great and long-standing community. You have a special place in the world of digital photography here in the forums, one that is worth keeping prosperous and encouraging new growth. I can see why so many of you have been contributing to discussions for years now.

Fun fact, I actually bought my first digital camera, Sony’s Cybershot DSC-H9B, based on a DPReview article all the way back in 2007. It lasted me several years, getting me through trips around the world. I was this close to being a community forum contributor, but alas, other things kept me on a different path… until now!

As I continue to settle in and work with the DPReview team and moderators, I hope that you all can help me become acquainted with how you see the community and what you want more of from our team. This includes any interests outside of the forums.

Please feel free to DM me anytime. Happy to answer any Qs you have in this thread as well.

Thanks Community!

It will be interesting to see how you engage.

Hi grsnovi! With care and grace, and on occasion when the stars align, a bit of humor and fun as well.

If you see the need for me to jump into any particular forum, please let me know. It takes me a while to get through all the forums each day, and I don't want to miss something you would like to see me or someone else on the DPR team contribute to.

Thanks for the reply!

Welcome to the world of rough and tumbles of the Forum world.. A tidy up around the edges, some high octane information on new products and maybe one or two Monthly Challenges.. All or any gear… Best 🍻

Thanks for posting Mathew. Your message did include 'interests outside of the forums'. On DPR's list of 'Forums', there is no 'Photographer Events' forum, yet there are literally dozens of events (both free and with a cost) that are available for photographers, both in the US and worldwide.

Here's an idea that I believe could seriously explode the membership numbers here at DPR. Have the host of whatever event, provide DPR members with a special discount or benefit available to ONLY Digital Photography Review members, should they be interested in attending. Let me know if you think that's a viable option... thanks!

That's a great idea! Totally a viable option, depending on the event and timing. Let me know if you have any particular events in mind...

Thanks... and yes... I actually do... here's our next event. I host these Cruiseboat Photoshoot events (20 past events in 14 years), and make ZERO profit from anyone who attends. All proceeds go directly to the cruiselines that you book your reservations with. Here's the 2 links. The Facebook link provides additional details and itinerary... the Instagram link provides images.

As you can see from my Instagram account, 'events' are what I host, and provide references to (other people's events as well, in posted photos). I have thousands of photographers I could refer to DPR, but I am reluctant to do so, primarily because you don't have an 'Photographer Events' forum. Maybe including such a forum would 'change my mind'... ;)

Hi Mathew and welcome onboard DPReview!! Please kindly make one thing sure: never ever allow anyone to try to shut down this site, like it almost happened 2 years ago. Promise? :)

I can say that we will do our best to build this great community with you all! We have a long-term plan to attract more community members who love talking about digital photography. I hope to get your help here, too.

I get that you may be a bit cautious, given what almost happened two years ago, but I am confident that this team and its community have a lot to celebrate up ahead. Gear Patrol and DPReview are wonderful and committed companies intent on supporting you—I wouldn't be here if that weren't the case.

Thank you Mathew. I've been enjoying DPReview in the last 23 years, so it goes without saying that I'll be here for sure and help the community whenever I can. :)

Pleased to see this information.

The Pro Forum needs a recruitment program. There are too few of us there.

Thanks BAK for the suggestion! It's the Nikon Pro DX SLR forum?

What about we merge it with the non-pro forum, and maybe the FX SLR one as well? They are all somewhat inactive and having more forums than is necessary just to cover a single set of cameras may not make sense anymore.

Totally agree with this... all of Nikon DX (DSLR) should be in just one forum... makes lots of sense... ;)

Welcome!

I was just actually thinking about this yesterday browsing the Nikon forums - DX DSLR could really be just one forum. The activity in the Nikon DSLR forums is dwindling anyway as users move to mirrorless or strictly using a smartphone.

I had started a weekly photo showcase thread about a year ago in the non-pro Nikon DX forum to mirror the Nikon Z system forum, but it was pretty apparent within the first six months there wasn't enough engagement to sustain that level of frequency, so it's now a monthly thread.

I was referring to Pro Digital Talk, which is of interrest to professional photographers and non-pros interested in how we think, what we do, and what we do it with. And where, and with whom.

That Nikon forum has nothing to do with professional photography in 2025, but has some nice bird shots.

The studio and lighting forum could use some planning and management and modifications in its content, but generally is the source of good answers to good questions, and kind responses to dumb questions. Photography is hard.

Go over to the Pro Digital Talk and introduce yourself.

Thanks for the callout. We're working on updates to the forum system that should make it easier for us to highlight interesting discussions taking place in particular sub-forums. Stay tuned.
