How Many Cameras Do You Own?

In my usual home of Micro Four Thirds I asked the specific question of how many M4/3 cameras owned, I sit at 7 of M4/3 but have a bunch more cameras if other brand compacts are added, such as a swarm of Casio compacts lurking at home.

Here's the link to my June 2024 M4/3 poll https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/67761332

  1. Coolpix 995
  2. Nikon V2
  3. Pentax 110
  4. Panasonic GX85
  5. Nikon D300
  6. Nikon D7200 (IR converted)
  7. Nikon Pronea S
  8. Nikon FA
  9. Nikon F100
  10. Nikon D800
  11. Nikon Z8
  12. Pentax 645n
  13. Wista Zone VI
  14. Holographic Camera (Never used)
Nice list!

Just wanted to make a fun poll before the apocalypse kicks in. So let me start.

I own six ILC cameras, plus four P&S, plus two smartphone cameras (won’t count the retired, worthless ones).

The ILC cameras span five different mounts.

Do I need so many cameras? Probably not (don’t want to get cynical here).

Do all of the cameras except 1–2 P&S get their fair amount of usage? Sure.

Do I love all of the cameras? The Fujifilm X-T4 is definitely my least loved body, but heck, yeah, I enjoy using all of them for different reasons.

What about you?
I have about 8 cameras but 7 are older and even film cameras. I only use one of them.

Just a few, I'm reasonable 😇

This is the most surprising poll I have ever seen on DPReview. Almost 50% have more than 10 cameras??? I felt pretty good about owning two cameras at the same time. I did not realize how much GAS and fondness for "stuff" there is out there. Not criticizing, just surprised. Doesn't make me want to go and buy a 3rd one though. To each their own.
I have 4 bodies that I use regularly, two of which have different usage.

But I have four or five vintage cameras I have picked up along the way. My first serious camera which I am loath to sell. I have a couple of clapped out Nikon 801s' which could go in the bin. A D300 that works but the leatherette is pealing off, so it has no value.

It is easy to get to ten without being a GAS freak

I have been an executor of two estates. Each time it was a discouraging enterprise getting rid of relatives' possessions and collectables - which for the most part no one on either side of the family wanted. Many many hours spent clearing two houses' worth of things that had been precious to their owners, old books, travel memorabilia, computer desktops, china, music CD's etc - mostly carted to the Salvation Army and some to the town dump. Not something I want to burden my heirs with and that thought definitely influences my thinking about how much more stuff I intend to accumulate - including hobby stuff such as cameras and guitars.

For me, it's 3 cameras... cause these 3 types of events is usually what I encounter. Extreme details events... healthy megapixal count. Majorly low-light event... strong high-ISO sensor. Telephoto event... go cropped sensor for the extended range. The 3 cameras I own cover these 3 types of events. Details in gear list below.

Gary, that actually makes a lot of sense.

A few years ago I owned four cars. (Today I am down to two). Those four cars served four separate functions...
  1. a luxury sedan
  2. an SUV
  3. a sports car
  4. a pickup truck
There was virtually no overlap. Each car had it's own purpose.

Retired me is down to 1 car for two of use, we negotiate and schedule who needs the car when. So my now nearly 26 year old Subaru wagon serves me as....
  • a luxury sedan (when I clean out the rubbish).
  • an SUV (it has four wheel drive so goes anywhere).
  • a sports car (occasionally I drive it like a crazy person).
  • a pickup truck (you should see the loads I've carried inside and on the roof).

I own only one car and I find that expensive enough. I own a Lexus ct200h which isn't a sports car even if I was high (which I'm never), certainly not an SUV, and least of all a pickup truck. I also have a luxury sporty cabriolet which identifies as an ebike. I'm Dutch, so of course I have a bike.
