Most Ruby-throated hummingbirds pass through the New York Metro area on there way north in the spring and then return and spend some time in the fall. Apparently a few have found a nice spot on Long Island to spend the summer. A friend told me about the spot and it was a joy to see and photograph them. I'm featuring one individual from the first two visits I saw it make to feed on the the red beabomb.

Wonderful capture, sharpness and composition ... colors overly bright (for my taste) ...

I posted in a separate thread, but wanted to add a few here also. Couldn't decide on the color or black and white for these few.

Went to check out one of the local car shows today. Still a bunch of to go through, but here are a few of the first round. That 18mm just continues to do its thing. Maven linear polarizer coupled with 1/8 strength sho-glo (diffusion) filter for almost all. Tried to lean into the highlights with some of the bloom/diffusion effect on that filter, given the bright sun. Apple Photos with Photomator plug in. Classic negative base to start. Kept the f/stop low a bunch because I could. 🙂 C&C welcome.

Strong and subtle reflections . . . narrow f/stop to make the subtle reflection even more subtle.

Nice compositions… 1st b/w, 2nd colour and 3rd b/w works for me 👍

Cheers, Bob.

Who goes every were with me. This is the story of an inter species friendship that goes back over 20 years. Earl is the elder male great egret at the Marine Nature Study Area in Oceanside, NY. Mike is the park's manager and early follows mike everywhere. Earl likes to entertain and will land near a tour group when Mike is leading it and this always gets a great reaction. I've come across Earl alone in the preserve and I asked him, "Where is Mike?" Earl's head snapes to point to Mike. This spring Earl arrived back at the preserve later than usual and we wondered if we had seen the last of him. In this set of photos Earl is escorting mike as he drives his golf cart across one of the bridges.

Great set and story, Morris. Many bird species are highly intelligent and will recognize kindness in humans ;).
