An idea for Pentax that might be useful. Can Pentax transform into a lens company for others? Or focus on producing manual lenses for other companies. This way, it preserves its name and continues its journey without any obstacles. Many emerging Chinese and Korean companies are entering the market through manual lenses. I am not saying that Pentax should withdraw from the camera market, but since Pentax has tried producing film cameras again, why not try producing manual lenses for itself and others? I also suggest returning to producing the K01 with today's technology specifications, as well as the Q camera. There is an opportunity for these sectors to succeed, while continuing to produce their traditional K1 and K3 cameras with today's technology.

As it is, it would be nice if they actually released more Pentax gear for Pentaxians alone. Many Pentaxians would love to see updated lenses at the bare minimum plus an updated K-1III. If they can't at least do that, they probably won't bother doing anything else. :-|

I wanted to make them do something instead of just being so still.

Me thinks, folks, Pentax / Ricoh shall continue to do what they do, when they do it and I, for one, am OK with that :-)

Cheers,

Jack

The question is when ?
Well, if I had to hazard a guess. @zakaria, when they've gathered enough intell, done enough research, done enough testing ....then, voila, a new product ;-). Ya cain't rush greatness :-)

Cheers,
😆

It looks really convincing.

They'd have to start absolutely from square one, since their lenses are all DSLR lenses which account for the mirror box, and would therefore be very bulky compared to the mirrorless formats of other manufacturers, meaning they would not sell.

I know what you mean, Zakaria, you wouldn't believe the number of slivers I have in my butt from sitting on the fence :-O ........... :-D

Ricoh's strategy was (is still?) Pentax to be a DSLR-brand. In case that will be a dead-end strategy, so be it. More brands disappeared, in fact all brands do sooner or later.

What's the added value of Ricoh making Pentax-branded Z-, R- or E-mount lenses? None.

We have to accept that DSLR's have become vintage, only older people like us using them and time by time replace them because we already are in the system with lenses. It seems the time has arrived that it is not profitable to develop new DSLR-bodies. Ricoh sells them as long as they have these in stock, or have the components in stock.

If you can live with that, enjoy shooting with it, like I do. If you want better (more modern), change brand and buy yourself in a MILC system.

I have 3 Pentax cameras k1ii k3ii k5iis with a huge lenses from 15mm to 300mm all are Pentax brand and all are prime lenses. So no intend to switch brand. I some times buy a Nikon z or a fujifilm X just for street photography.

With that setup, buy a Sony A7rIII or something used and the monster adapter. Mount your Pentac lenses and enjoy better AF and some mirrorless fun, will work well for street.

Is there a specific model of Monster Adapter? Are there any alternatives since I can't find it on Amazon UAE?

I bought mine from B+H and have seen them on EBay, its full name is “Monster Adapter LA-KE1 Magic Ring Pentax K Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Adapter”

Problem is change is constant.

Once you reach it, ya gotta keep going.... or somebody or something eventually surpasses it. Pentax was great during K5 K3 days right? But they didn't keep going and got significantly passed. (just the way I see it) :-)

They struggle to make lenses now for themself. Years ago I thought they should try and do something like what you have mentioned after using the Tokina 50mm 1.4 lens in EF mount.

If they could produce and sell lenses for other mounts they could use the money they make to continue the DSLR and K mount. In a way similar to how Sigma makes lenses for everyone else and still makes their own camera body from time to time that nobody buys.

24 or 28mm f2 weatherproof, small, good optics. I'm waiting

I think that is just selling of the product which have been manufactured and are sitting on warehouse shelves.

If you've got Pentax gear and you're happy with it, keep shooting with it, and adding replacing bits from the new or used markets as long as you're still happy with it.

Putting other lens mounts onto the designs which exist, or licensing the IP to others would get the last bits of value out of them, but for Pentax owners who want anything more than they have now, expecting anything of Ricoh is blind faith is spite of the available evidence.
