Hmmm... GR WORLD sounds like a new version of Image Sync except that it only supports the GR II, GR III & GR IIIx (presumably the GR IV when it comes out.) As a Pentax owner I am a bit troubled.

Thanks for posting this. I just got back from a trip to Maine, and could have used/tested the GR World App.

I travel light, and don’t bring my MacBook with me. I use the Apple SD card reader and process select images I’m interested in with Snapseed and then post them to my IG feed.

But I’ve got another trip in August, so looking forward to using GR World to see how it works.

Cheers, Ned

So what does this gr world app do that the current app doesnt. And why new firmware, what cant it do now that the new app needs. Hmm

Are they going to update the current app in paralel for other pentax cameras, hmm

i hope they dont think im going to login all the time to conect my camera..like the crap sony app which you have to login to update your firmware or location etc via app and so on. Im not doing that or buying firmware or any other crap.

Nice and simple sd card reader to android phone is flawless and fast.

Given the Image Sync supports a lot of older cameras and GR World only supports new(er) cameras I suspect they have cleaned up the code a lot, or rewrote it from scratch. It might not "do more" but more likely "does it better", i.e., stable, performance, etc.. Also, from the reports that I have seen Image Sync doesn't seem to work very well with iPhones (I have Android and it's OK) so maybe that it part of it.

Image Sync also does geotagging. It doesn't sound like you use it but people do.

Ah'd be worried 'bout thet GeoTagging tippin' off all them Mice agents about what saloon ah'm in. Mice, Ice, whatever. Jes' found out today from my friend Booger thet the Crystal only charges $4 a shot. But it ain't 1880, so I cain't trade a .45 long shell fervan ounce o' Of Old Overholt rye whiskey. At least it's still the same as 1880.
This is the kind o' thang we talk about in Tombstone between monsoon rain downpours. And seriously, if anybody out there is coming to AZ for a vacation... watch out for flash floods. We have all the dangerous places posted, luckily...

Just installed GR WORLD . Geotagging is included.

App supports widgets which I like.

App does not Connect to Image Sync to copy your camera registration.
When I started the app it asked me if the camera was registered before on the phone, I said yes and it did everything automatically.

That's on an android

So the app is available to download today but they have changed the installation requirements for Android.

The old image sync app says its supported on Android OS 12 to 15 and requires Android 5.0 and up.

The New GR World app says its supported on Android OS 13 to 15 and requires Android 12 and up!

The old app always worked ok on Samsung s8 that runs android 9.

As you may have guessed the new GR world app wont install on my samsung s8. Its not available for my device, too old apparently, works perfectly fine for everything else though.

Now Android 12 was released October 2021 which isnt even 4 years ago...I find it unacceptable that you now require a phone thats less than 4 years old to be able to use this especially as the GRIII was release March 2019 and they just released a firmware to use the new app! Crazy world.

If i have to buy a new phone to use a new GRIV to its full potential then maybe i cant afford to buy a GRIV?

We also need to know if the GRIV will be supported on the old image sync app.

Also need to know if i update a GRIII to the latest firmware, will the GRIII still work with old image sync app or only with the new GR world app (which i cant use)

I just tested Image Sync with my GR IIIx updated to the new firmware and it works fine.

Thanks for confirming that.

Installed GR WORLD on an IPhone 12.

it does the same as Image Sync but connects flawless to the camera.

nice extra; you can now power off the camera by phone

the downloading via WLAN works solid.no more flikkering screen .

It does the same but its more robust and feels like a new app, Image Sync felt like an old Windows app.

I downloaded GR World yesterday, and pretty much have the same reaction as you. I posted my initial thoughts on my IG feed, if anyone is interested.
