**July '25 with your smartphone**

Its photo output looks beautiful and very capable to me! You've had quite a bit to do with that, I assume. Nice work!
Thank You ! it's really take me years to make a best gcam config for that phone. But i have to admit that nokia 7.2 has a very good lens, better than almost every phone i tried( samsung s9, xperia 5 mark ii, samsung s20, samsung s25, redmi note 13 pro, iphone 13, .....)

Some old Pics from my broken Nokia 7.2

Very nice set. I like the very natural look of these images.

Could you point me to a tutorial about how to set Gcam in order to get images like these?

Taken with iPhone 16 Pro and Leica Lux app. Used the 50 NTX lens in aperture mode. Minor processing done to image. Mostly just a crop.

There are those that say the paid version of the Leica Lux app is a gimmick and while it is extremely expensive for an app, I find that I like it more each time I use it.

It's SuperGao who taught me the "secrets of GCAM" I talked about here: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4805961?page=3#forum-post-68328962

Search for the "Denoise" settings from HDR+, Enhanced HDR+ and Night, you should find "Luma Revert Factor" and "Luma Outlier Threshold Factor". These two are the villains, set to zero. After that you set "Chroma Strength Factor" and "Luma Strength Factor" to zero and then takes a shot and go back into the settings to increase its values. They remove the natural noise produced by the sensor, increase it's values until you're satisfied with the amount of noise. Luma Denoise New A-B can be left default or increased a bit without damages (on my phone), this last part seems to have more effect in Enhanced HDR+.

It's quite simple actually when you understand the idea behind it.
What you want is NO processing, so set everything to zero. EVERYTHING. SuperGao also sets all sorts of sharpening you can find in the settings to zero.
As long as you do this you'll get photos like that, photos that are still "computationally composed" but without all the "tricks" to supposedly "improve" that have the contrary effect. The rest is up to your taste, how many stops of exposure you want the camera to combine and how many photos to take on Enhanced HDR+, saturation, contrast, etc.

My photo of the day.
I'm thinking about converting more photos to BW, it may work better.

Taken with the 5x zoom on iPhone. Massively cropped! Way too noisy and water color like but the composition was half way decent I thought.

That's not bad. Beats my XS, where if you do any kind of zoom in low-light turns into a watercolor painting.

Debating about upgrading to the 17 in September but also waiting to see pricing and how tariffs play a role. I also just got my battery replaced on my XS in case I decide to not upgrade, I still have a functional phone for another year or so.

I'm awaiting the day that I can replace all my camera gear with a phone for serious photography, but I think we're still out a few years out from that even with all the A.I. and computational sorcery.

Thanks. Yes overall the iPhone 16 does a pretty good job most times especially in good light. I am waiting for the iPhone 17 because I believe it will have a better telephoto lens (I hope!).

I think you’re starting to come around.😉

Thank you so much. Yes, I remember having seen that thread, but I forgot. It's no fun getting old!

I installed a modded version of Gcam, which is AGC9.2.14-V14.0.apk.

Straight out of the box, it works very well. More natural results than the stock app (less sharpening, and less NR).

I think Google is obsessed with noise and wants to eliminate it completely. That's why, with the stock app, photos are noise-free, but outrageously accentuated to compensate. The result is horrible artifacts that are visible when you view the photos at 100%.

I'll try to play with the Gcam settings, as you suggest. I'm not in a hurry, since as it is, the app works fine, and I'm already pleased with the results. Thanks again!

Edit: I can't find how to access to the "Denoise" settings from HDR+, Enhanced HDR+ and Night, to find "Luma Revert Factor" and "Luma Outlier Threshold Factor".

Took this picture 5 minutes ago. Highlights are burnt, but that's normal. I wonder what caused this kind of "dome" on the left. Lens flare, I suppose. Anyway, I like it.

Maybe I should have used manual mode, increased SS, limited iso, to avoid burnt highlights...But I think burnt highlights are inavoidable here.

It’s all about the zoom.

Different versions of GCAM arrange the settings differently.

Mine is also AGC 9.2, so maybe there's a shortcut pressing and holding that last photo taken preview in the viewfinder.

The long way to get there is "Settings - Configuration of Modes - Camera Modules (chose any) - Additional Settings".

Remember you can save and load your settings at any time.

Yes, that does look like lens flare.

I’ve returned today to a place I haven’t visited for nearly 40 years. The town of Seaham, on the north-eastern coast of England, used to be famous as an industrial place where the mines and factories had used the beaches as waste dumps. The names of the town’s beaches are a clue to this - Glass Beach, Chemical Beach and Blast Beach don’t exactly sound like tropical paradises! In the 1980s, these beaches were sad, sterile places - they were used as filming locations in Get Carter (to show the gritty, industrial north-east) and in Alien 3, as a desolate planet. Thanks to a huge amount of work, Seaham is now a very pleasant place to visit. Here are Chemical Beach ( looking north) and Blast Beach, from a point very close by and facing south. Rainy day, SOOC, iPhone 14 Pro.

How much light can a tiny phone camera sensor capture in...1/18182 s? AI has done all the dirty work, turning the photo into a shapeless mess. It's hard to call it DNG.
