I really love this lens because it is so light weight, which is really helpful at times.

At f/2.5 I think it looks pretty fabulous.

This was on an indie film set on Tuesday and the great window light made for some nice, quick portraits.

C&C Welcome, but please do not grab and tweak my image in any way.

I like the window light

I like your choice of f2.5 - I use to use that setting with my old EF 50 F1.4

I'd just tweak the image a bit by adding a tad of light to the skin around her right eye - I use to do this using software

Howdy R2! Hope all is good in your world!
I thought that was you BG!

LOL, I'm just getting ready to retire. :-)

Plan on selling about half my stuff. Will be reconfiguring my "bag" a bit.

Looks like you're in the thick of things. I wish you well my friend! Thanks for posting here.

I bought one used for $125 to try it out, and came away impressed. I've posted about this with images elsewhere. Many here pooh-pooh, disdain and turn up their noses at the lens, thinking that it's nothing more than the EF version in RF guise. It's not. And it's sharp wide open at f/1.8. For the price, size, weight and performance, it's a no-brainer.

I've been fortunate that thanks to hard work in my chosen (not photography) profession, I've had the opportunity to acquire some nice L glass, including some highly respected primes.

Even with access to that great glass, the one lens I've not parted with is the 50 1.8. It's likely the best "bang for buck" lens that Canon makes (and has been since its EF version). And for when you just want to travel light and not lug around the weight of an L lens, the nifty fifty's got you covered.

Some nice things happening after all these years...first book deal and doing some presentations, shoot demos and photo walks for the two big camera stores in NYC.

I'm pretty much pinching myself every day.

It bears highlighting the results from OpticalLimits testing which shows that the lens only falters in the extreme corners at f/1.8. Elsewhere it's at least "very good" when it comes to resolution. The RF lens.

It is a nice lens. I shoot at 2.8 mostly, when shooting portraits.

Yeah, thanks! I'm wanting more flexibility and free time. I'll still have as many (freelance) gigs as I can want/handle though.

Waiting (im)patiently for an M6ii replacement next!

Very happy for you reaching the pinnacle! Have at it!
All the best,

R2

ps. Look for an Airshow thread I want to post this weekend! :-)

RF 50 f/1.8 video rack focusing - wonderful bokeh!

I love this lens for stills, but also for video - I use it often.

Cheers,
Rudy :-)

Really nice shot. I'd love to see a B&W version. I've owned four different non-L 50's (the EF 50 F1.8 II, EF 50 F1.4, EF 50 F1.8 STM, RF 50 F1.8), and this is easily the best. I also own both the L versions in RF mount, which is real overkill, but I find there's a place for each one, so I'm not about to get rid of any of them. I agree with others who say that you can easily shoot this lens wide open, and get really good results (especially if you process with DXO), because the extreme corners are the only weak spots, and you almost certainly won't care about extreme corners when shooting at F1.8. The main reason to shoot slightly stopped down, for me at least, is for a bit more depth of field.

Thank you and, I agree on all counts.

I've had the EF 50mm f/1.8, EF 50mm f/1.4 (was my workhorse when I was starting out) and am fortunate enough to have been gifted the EF f/1.2, which I love and use with an RF adapter.

Cheers, Charles
