I have a relatively new 16 inch MBP, but I want an external monitor. How good is the 5k apple monitor compared to the LG or Samsung? Do you all believe the extra money for height adjustment is worth it?

As an alternative, is the Dell 6k 32 inch a better choice? It is about $2,000 preowned, so it is about the same as the apple monitor.

Any suggestions? I only edit stills, no video.

The Apple 5K is excellent and ASUS has a 5K that’s getting great reviews.

If you get the Apple 5k remember it was introduced some years ago so you usually can find it on sale. Best Buy for example and amazon prime is very soon.

Ps i have theApple right next to my apple XDR and it holds up very well except HDR.

I use the Apple XDR display and stand with my 2019 Mac Pro. The ability to adjust the height and angle is very useful. I used to have a 27 inch iMac but now that I have a 32 inch monitor, I wouldn’t go back to the smaller size.

I haven’t made any direct comparison between 5K and 6K but I’m very happy with the performance of the XDR. I appreciate that it is very expensive, and there may be cheaper 32 inch monitors out there with as good or better performance, but the industrial design of the XDR was also important to me in choosing this monitor.

Depending on 'need' wouldn't 32" or 27" 4k, 3840 x 2160, be plenty?

Wouldn't 27" 2k, 2560x1440, be ok too?

I've been using two 27" monitors, both 2k for my photo work. I've also been using a macbook pro. Use it with Lightroom Classic and photoshop.

We all have different needs. I guess it depends what you 'want' as well.

Saw it on Macrumors:

You can pre-order it from B&H, around $1400. Despite the "won't break the bank" headline, the Asus PA27JCV costs less, $825.
