It seems to be a mini port of some kind. Very little info on it in the manual. I was hoping to hook up a lightning trigger device to it, but I'm getting nowhere (so far) with my research.

there is nothing there, it is just the two 3.5mm jack's

The Leica page only mentions compatibility with the SL2 models, but B&H states it works on the SL3 series as well:

That's great! Thanks! But...which port do you stick it into? The mic port or the headphones port?

That's a good question. The manual doesn't seem to cover wired remote operation at all, but the diagram on page 29 has a part designated number 38 which points to both the microphone and headphone sockets. As the remote only has one plug I presume this means that you can use either, but to be on the safe side I suggest contacting Leica for confirmation.

yes, you can use either one, once you plug it in it will detect it is a remote cable.
BTW, I use any of the Panasonic versions plus an adapter 2.5mm Female to 3.5 mm like this on Amazon. https://a.co/d/hYtIFdM
