Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

Very nice Rich, the first image especially so. That said, you are going to have to buy some longer glass as 40 mm on ff is not going to give you the reach of the 60 mm on m4/3! That is unless you never use the longer focal lengths or have another camera to use for that.

The first image has amazing light that works really well in the field as well as the rest of the image.

Can't find it in the camera database here. Does it have another name in the US?

Looked at the Panasonic site. Almost the same resolution as Oly but on a much larger sensor sounds interesting! I don't have the knowledge to put behind it, but my feeling is that larger photosites > more MP.

Crap, it's almost of the the price of an OM-1 II! 😨

Just an S5 really...the D means you can add DJI Lidar to it

The price was just silly low and you can see the detail in the pics

Thanks Andrew. Yes I have my eye on the 70-300 already

I think the price you saw was for a different model Charlotte. I can not find the S5, not the S5ii or D, at any of the three major Ontario retailers. It is too old and would only be in stock if they had existing unsold inventory. Not being familiar with the product I don't know the differences between the S5 and the S5ii. Same MP count but .... ???

Andrew

the S5Ii Andrew is only two years old the difference is The S5ii was the first Panasonic camera to have phase detect autofocus the original S5 was contrast based a big thing in the Panasonic world 🙂

Yeah, the one I found turned out to be uses. I find S5, S5II and 5IIX. What happened to 3-7? The naming of cameras is hopeless and Panasonic is among, of not the, worst!

Thanks Charlotte.

The dance shots vary from cute kids to young adults trying for artistic, and at times achieving it. Not sure who does the choreography for the numbers but unlikely the kids!

Andrew

Thanks WN.

Our peonies are on their last legs, the non droopy varieties. The droopy ones are still in the process though. I think the tree peonies may be done as well but they are relatively new for us so I do not know for sure yet.

I think these are from May, some in good weather and some in rain, of which we have had little since. A down pour later this afternoon though, so yeah!

female downy woodpecker if I recall correctly. The hairy woodpeckers look the same to me only much larger than the downy and I can not tell the size from the image.

There seems to be a vessel of some kind left to deteriorate at almost every pier, bay or harbour, Rich. I find it incredibly sad but they can be a good subject for photography.

Dave

Good to have you along as always WN. It's an interesting little island and I enjoy the peace and quiet.

Dave

Thanks Pete. I was completely unaware of the event detailed on the information board in the cemetery and felt incredibly sad after reading it. The actions of the islanders after the event were highly commendable.

Dave

That's a great buy Rich. I've been tempted to buy an S5 but have resisted so far. A used S5 with the 20-60mm lens can be bought for silly money these days.

Seeing these images hasn't helped.😊
