Maybe this has been discussed on the Fuji X forum, but not here (according to search), except in reference to the new Lightroom emulation.

I liked Fuji Reala, although at 100 speed it was not practical for moving subjects. Perhaps due to the 4th cyan emulsion layer, it was very color accurate especially with blues and purples. Never used Reala Ace, so I was curious and found this:

"I tried Reala Ace right away. The new film simulation was named after Fujicolor Superia Reala Ace 100 color negative film, a version of Fujicolor Superia Reala 100 that was only sold in Japan. Reala was introduced in the late-1990’s and discontinued in 2013, and was the first Superia film (although initially it didn’t have Superia in the name), the first with their 4th emulsion layer.
"... Unfortunately, the new Reala Ace film simulation is not modeled after the film that it was named after."

Astia emulation is not modeled after the film that it was named after, either. Too contrasty.

In general, I find most of the Fuji film emulations kind of "meh" although I'd like to have Reala Ace, which stands out amongst all the boring low-color options. The three in DxO PhotoLab (Astia Provia Velvia) are excellent and very useful at times, as is Kodachrome.

I personally don't particularly like the Fujifilm Reala Ace simulation. It just feels like a brighter less contrasty standard Provia in my eyes. I tend to go Classic Chrome if I want that kind of look.

Reala Ace produces deep blue skies, without excessive contrast of Velvia emulation. I like it.

Classic Chrome is one of the under-saturated emulations, along with Eterna Cinema and Bleach Bypass. Glad you like it. I'm not sure when I would use the "Neg" emulations, either.

Are you guys using the film simulations in FilmPack, within DXO PL, or the ones that come inside of NIK? Thanks.

I have older Fuji cameras that don't offer much more than DxO PhotoLab without FilmPack, i.e. Astia, Provia, and Velvia. Also I'd like to have Reala Ace, because it has low-ish contrast with the saturation of Velvia, although emphasizing different colors.
From what I read here, newer versions of DxO FilmPack do not allow Fuji film emulations with non-Fuji cameras. Maybe I will buy an X-S30 if and when it comes out.

No, what’s restricted is the use of Fuji’s own copyright digital films on raws from any camera that doesn’t include them, even including Fuji cameras. Fuji is keen that processed raws from its cameras can match the colours of digital films they can apply, but doesn’t want other cameras to benefit from them.

DxO’s own Fuji film emulations can be freely applied to any raws.

Does DxO FilmPack have a Reala Ace emulation?

Nope. They do have Fuji Superia Reala 100. It might be somewhat similar to Reala Ace, which was available only in Japan.

I don't think so. The nearest I can find is Superia Reala:

Rendered using Fuji Superia Reala 100
Rendered using Fuji Superia Reala 100

This film emulation continues to be available, as it's DxO's own.

Thanks for posting this. Compared to PL8 Generic and Fuji Classic Chrome emulation in PL7, as you posted in the thread below, it seems too bright. Blue sky is a bit washed out.

Yes, it’s not a rendering I’d choose.

From my experience there is almost no difference in the color of a blue sky when using the simulations from an X-T5 so I guess we are not talking about those. Is it DXO's own simulations we are discussing?

Just out of interest, can you spot which one is Provia and Reala ACE based on the sky color? There is a Velvia example attached for comparison.

These are from the Fujifilm X-T5.

No, DxO does not have a Reala Ace simulation, only Reala Superia in FilmPack.

Can't tell. I thought the first was Provia and the second Reala Ace, but EXIF says it's the other way around. The Provia (second) is slightly brighter, but sky is the same hue. Sky color with Velvia is certainly different - too purple.

Thanks to your post, I no longer have a hankering for Reala Ace! Provia standard is good enough. Easy enough to adjust contrast. There's a nice Reala Ace image in the X-E5 gallery, but dark blue sky is probably the result of -1 EV.

Yes, the Velvia-simulation is very strong and I rarely use it. I think I've only used it on some flowers, but even then I tend to prefer Astia.

Yeah, that's why I was kind of disappointed in Reala ACE because I think it doesn't look different enough. It's still nice, don't get me wrong but I really prefer the others, like Pro Neg Hi, Classic Chrome and Classic Neg.

Provia is great for all situations.
