Best EF > E mount adapter for Canon lenses (A7R V)

Bought a Sigma mc-11. Put IT on an A9ii. Sigma Art 28 f/1.4 works well on photo and video.

Art 40 f/1.4 works only on photo with autofocus.

Tested other lenses I have ; EF 35 f/1.4 L ii, EF 40 f/2.8, EF 24-70 f/1.4 L is, 16-35 f/1.4 L is, 28-300 L is, and Tokina Opera f/1.4 all of them had working autofocus with photo. Not all functions. But not with video, You have to use manual focus.

Ordered a 7Artisan to try.

Would also try Tokina adapter, but no one could deliver.

The last one that I consider was K&F concept.

Sigma mc-11 has a good build quality and got a gasket.
Came across this: https://phillipreeve.net/blog/adapters-manual-lenses-sony-a7-series-guide/

which maybe of interest but does not include the Sigma.

Art 40 f/1.4 works only on photo with autofocus. Seems that was not correct. Now it works on video.

The procedure for changing lens is to mount it on lens and then to camera. The You are sure it has lost power and is reset.

I just picked up an A7R V intending to replace my GFX gear (100S/100S II & 50S II) with this system.

I have a handful of EF lenses that I use on an EOS-3 film camera, and I'd naturally like to explore how they look on the Sony. There are few different adapters available: Sigma MC-11, Viltrox, Metabones, Urth...

Which would you recommend specifically for Canon EF? Decent autofocus preferable. I heard the Sigma, for example, doesn't support several EF lenses (or at least they stopped working after a firmware update?)

The threads I've found elsewhere seem pretty out of date and I didn't want to necro an old thread as I know people get worked up about that.

Any advice would be very welcome.
I used Metabones until I realized I was simply delaying the inevitable, sold all my EF lenses and got fully invested in the Sony FF system.

I sold most of my EF lenses. Read too many issues with adapters, light leaks, AF, vignetting, soft corners etc.

l only have my Zeiss 21mm and some macros left.

I assume that should be f/4.0. (otherwise an adapter is definitely worth it ;-) )

The Urth went back to Amazon and today I did a fair bit of testing with the Sigma MC-11.

All of the 50mm f1.8 STM, 50mm f1.8 Mk. I, 28mm f2.8 Mk. I, 85mm f1.2L are front focusing, consistently and by a fair margin - several meters when focusing on an object 50-100m away. Will try a firmware update, although I'm a bit reluctant as I've heard there's an update that prevents EF lenses working at all.

One of the reasons I bought the Sony is because I do almost all of my photography using EOS-3 film cameras, plan to use the A7R V + Sigma 105mm Macro to scan my negatives, and when film's difficult to source/unavailable, the Sony with my EF lenses adapted would offer a similar look and I could get away with mixing formats. How difficult it seems to be to adapt EF lenses is a blow but I could make do with MF. Shame Sony MF assist isn't more intuitive - I've no idea why the focus peaking doesn't disappear on a half press of the shutter release as with any other system I've used. Peaking is distracting when trying to compose (as is disabling it with a button click).

Every EF lens I've tried works perfectly fine with my GFX 50/100MP cameras and Fringer Pro adapter, including the 70-200 f2.8L, big 300mm f2.8L and 200-400 f4L).

A slight offramp from the topic. I have a large archive of 35mm film from the 1970s to 2003. Nine years ago I went through a major scanning project of many of those negatives from the 1970s here in my website. I had planned on continuing but came to a full stop until 3 months ago. The old scanner was outdated, so I bought a PLUSTEK OPTICFILM 8300AI FILM SCANNER bundled with dedicated SilverFast AI Studio 9 Software. There was a bit of a learning curve, but let me tell you, once mastered, the scanner and software can get you very close to final touch up condition in Photoshop. And I've been having fun going through a few hundred negatives of my family growing up in the 1990s. I've tried a number of solutions to digitize negatives (including adapting my original Canon FL Bellows and matching Canon Negative duplicator to my modern digital cameras), but none have come close to working as well as this Opticfilm solution for me. I just thought I'd mention this since digitizing negatives is so important to you.

Note: it's just family pictures so far, but here is one of the Galleries I'm working on so you can see the results.

I’m wondering your experience with 7Artisans’, as I read some positive reviews about it, and its compatibility list is longer than MC11.

I have just got the 7Artisans.

I have checked the autofocus function on my A9 II. Have not tried lots of shooting.

Af-C for movie tested (works and indicator shows AF-C or AF-S on the screen.):

EF 35 mm f/1.4 L II,

EF 40 mm f/2.8,

Tokina Opera 50MM 1.4,

EF 16-35 mm f/4 L

EF 24-70 mm f/4 L

The different modes works with the EF 24-70 mm f/4 L and eye tracking works. The AF is working quick and is reliable on photo. The af hung up when I tried various mf-modes and mf-aids and switched back to AF-C or AF-S

Some of the ef-lenses is not made for af-c and movie mode and will make strange noises when the af motor does the work. This will occur on a Canon camera to.

The good news is that the adapter works ok for the most settings.

Appreciate the detailed firsthand experience. Glad that it works for you, and it gives me confidence to try it.

late here, but the 7Artisans adapter worked perfectly for me. Well made and worked as you'd hope it would.
I may try it, price is ok but mixed reviews on Amazon, most negative ones are about AF.

AF does not bother me, as my Zeiss is MF and with my macro lenses l use MF anyway.
