Those of you who know me, know I can't resist anything colourful, and St John's has plenty of colourful doorways. Here are a few of my favourites from earlier this month!

You're certainly right about lots of color! All the doors are wonderful , but that third one is so cool. Makes me want to paint my house those colors!

Thank you, Den! I'd like to do something like that too, but if I did it here my neighbours would lynch me. Brits are generally very conservative about colour. Most people here are on a grey kick at the moment, but I look at the sky and think "Why on earth would you want to see more of that wretched [lack of] colour!?!"

Don't know many Brits well who still live there (just 4 actually), only ones who came over to the "New World" and have lived here for quite some time now. They seemed to have adapted to the California live style quite well. Plus, they have retained their home country's charming use of language and accent, so they are delightful (as far as I'm concerned) to have as friends and previous colleagues.

Now happily retired, one of the advantages of working in academia (University of California, Santa Cruz) was meeting/interacting with, and often becoming "mates" with people from other countries, and you Brits are right at the top!

So take a chance, paint your door purple! You can always move to Santa Cruz, Ca. if your neighbors get upset with you. We'd be "chuffed" to have you here.

The door that leads to the weapon room at Frötuna church, just outside Norrtälje in Sweden. The early parts of the church were begun in the late 12th century and been added on throughout the centuries.
