This going to sound a little weird, but last night I remembered an estimating/invoicing software called Hindsight or 20/20. As I recall it was pretty good software..

I did a search using Google this morning and I can’t find them so I presume the company has gone out of business.

Have they gone out of business? If so how long ago?

Hindsite is Very different type of software from Hindsight. A friend however found the information I was looking for: https://download.cnet.com/developer/hindsight/i-10013429/

and another friend let me know it basically stopped being developed several years when its creator, photographer Richard Cook retired. That was probably the point at which I switched to first Photobyte and then Blinkbid, https:// blnkbid.com , which is what I currently use.

Thank you, Luke,

Ad it turns out Hindsight stopped development back in 2011 when the owner retired. I now use Blinkbid, https://blinkbid.com

Thank you for the info Ellis. I have not heard of Blinkbid before. I will keep them in mind for the future.

I use Mind Your Own Business (MYOB) - AccountEdge Basic software - to produce Quotes and Invoices like this…

.. as well everything else that I needed to do to run my business over the pass 20 years or so.

The actual link (Ashley's went to it's wikimedia page) https://www.myob.com/

The price for a solo plan is not bad.

Questions for Ashley:

Do you use it to prepare estimates and production confirmation forms?

How customizable is it?

Can I build a client contact db using MYOB

I would just use it to provide Quotes and Invoices...

cd7451e4842c4fbe86a1ac9356196a4e.jpg

.. like this...

(Invoice-00017539)
(Invoice-00017539)

.. as well keep track of purchases and bank transactions, etc.

It's pretty basic and therefore very simple to use... which is what I like about it.

To work out what my base rate for standard use would need to be, as well as what the 'additional usage' fee would be, I'd use a spread sheet like this...

(The Apple 'Numbers' spread sheet that I use to help me workout what the fee would be)
(The Apple 'Numbers' spread sheet that I use to help me workout what the fee would be)

.. but I obviously wouldn't show that to the client since I wouldn't be asking them to pay me for my time & expenses to do the work.

Added Note: In the UK, a quote is a legally binding offer for a fixed price, while an estimate is a rough approximation of the cost that may not be binding and can change. Quotes are more formal and should be written, while estimates are often informal and may be verbal.
