Very nice

This was my first sighting of a night heron this season. It seems the grackles were not happy with it's fishing spot at Oakland Lake here in New York City and chased it off.

Growing old is inevitable (if you're lucky). Growing up is optional.

Beautiful contrasting colors. Don't see many water lilies where I live.

I got very recently a brand new XF150-600mm , so I've started wandering around looking for some birds and animals in genre :-)

This is my first black-winged stilt

Awesome capture, focus dead on!

Any tips for nailing focus on takeoff? I am frequently attempting this handheld on the 150-600, at +1600 SS, with continuous AF bird detect on, but the camera does seem to lose the bird as it jumps. What AF settings are you using for this particular type of shot (I am usually using Morris' BIF settings but perhaps need a second mode for this).

Thanks!!

Alex

Hi, It's the proverbial beginner's luck , I'm using Morris BIF setting and I've just started to shoot ...

Amazing - I am trying without much success on capturing them in flight, but this gives me something to work towards!

Thanks ... i wonder if I need to monopod it. I tend to "move" inadvertently when the bird jumps and i'm thinking this is a potential culprit.

Beautiful image! Excellent sharpness and DOF.

Nice shooting 👍

Thank you,

Observe them when you first arrive and memorize the flight patterns that they somewhat repeat. This will help you decide which flights to track and also track.

Have fun,

Morris

Little break from birding for me, I spend some more time focusing (at least trying to) on little bug, fascinating as well !

Thank you. I used the Canon as it performs better with the 1.4 teleconverter than the Fuji combo, and I need the extra reach for shorebirds here. I've only tried my Fuji 500 with the Fuji 1.4 teleconverter one time and could really notice the difference vs just the bare lens performance wise. The Canon 500 w 1.4 teleconverter, I cant even tell its on other than field of view. For shorebirds I mostly use a monopod, ground skimmer pod, or am lying on the ground, so dont feel the extra weight much.
Excellent set. You went with your heavier lens. Did you need the faster apature?
