What did you shoot or post-process? (May 19 - May 25)

[How Utrecht has changed!]

I have not been there in decades but I knew Utrecht well. It looks very different now. My favourite is your shot of the station in #3.

These are all really good. Especially the 1st and last ones!

I have so much admiration for those that can do street photography well.

Wow. Really cool. I will just comment on #1 for the time being as I am trying to digest the geography. Great looking scene. I looked it up... on the west coast of Scotland. I would have thought... somewhere closer to the equator! I will study the map further and also look at #2. Thanks for posting. :-)
Thank you. That part of Scotland is really beautiful. And you're right, some of the beaches are like they're from the carribean (until you get in the water!)

A few pictures taken over the past ~week and processed. The usual subjects and a few oddballs. It is always fun to get outside and shoot... then fiddle in post.

That's right, this morning I was sitting down for
breakfast with the famous Mr. Toney the Tiger.

Everything was cool and copasetic when out
of no-where a mutant snail slithered in on us.
These things are sneaky, sticky and stinky ;(--

Like my grandma always said >>>>
"The Devil Finds Time 4 idle Hands."

Alright, I'm the first to admit, I'm idle
right now, cabin fever is eating me up.

Mr. Monkey the MoJo Man is under the
desk with his head resting on my foot.
Pumpkin Pie is upside-down behind
me talking up a storm wanting a
big belly rub, like right now ;)-

Weather report >>>>

Hot with temperatures reaching into
the mid 90's F, monsoons, right now!

So, what we have here is >>>>
The Same Same But Different.

Know you know what I know ;)-

My favourite is the concrete mixer truck. That vehicle looks so clean and shiny, almost a toy!
LOL! Thanks. Since you mentioned it... I took a closer look. Seems like maybe (?) there is a wheel alignment issue (left front) based on the tire wear. Compare it to the other side. Or... maybe that rig just drives in circles (clockwise) which would put a little extra load on the outer edge of the tire (and wear it down)? Not an inflation issue as then the wear would be more uniform across the tread. Photo analysis! LOL. :-)

Very good! D300... NICE. But should I be concerned for your mental well-being? LOL. :-) Very creative. Who is the prop artist? The nice thing is... you have friends nearby!

Hah! You made me smile. Do I see more toe-in on that left (of photo) front wheel?

Hi M5,

"should I be concerned for your mental well-being?"

Many have been, but I'm still who I am doing what I do.

"Very creative. Who is the prop artist?"

Actually, I'm nothing more than a k9manservant.

The prop artists gig is one of my side hustles ;-)-

Went to see a local band at a pub yesterday. I haven't photographed bands before, and the lighting was demanding and the space available was very narrow so it was more like seeing whether I can do it. Very difficult to capture the whole band in one shot as there was only about two metres space in front of the stage.

Well done! My normal setting for these kinds of shots is f/2.8 @ ISO 1600 or 2000 with a shutter speed in the range of 1/80 to 1/250 (for stopping the action/motion). Sometimes f/4 with slightly higher ISO for more DOF if needed. Of course, a lot depends on the stage lighting. Nowadays I don't do as much music/concert shooting because the venue that I typically frequent has become much more stringent in regard to their photography policy. A bit a hassle, so I don't do it much anymore.

I have a very robust policy myself with regard to visiting places that forbid or make difficult taking photographs (often with what they regard as 'professional' kit). I vote with my feet - I don't go. What's more I tell them I am going to put up a web page naming the venue and telling the public at large all about it. And I have actually done that.

Result usually is a rapid response from the venue telling me I am OK to come and photograph what and how I want!

@Topi: Well done on getting any kind of photograph at all under those circumstances. I imagine setting white balance was a nightmare?

White balance? What's that...? I mean in those circumstances. I also photographed a female Sami folk singer, accompanying herself with a guitar, and at one shot I think was good, one half of her face was lit by blue light, other by red... The hue difference is visible even in B&W.

BTW, I contacted both performers and the pub in advance, asking if they are OK with my photographing. All said it's OK. Chatting with the female singer before the show she asked me not to publish any of her pics, and I will respect her wish (she did thank me after seeing the pics, though).

I've been to that pub a couple of times to see some bands so I had an idea about the circumstances, including light, but the distance from the stage to the first tables was shorter than I remembered. I couldn't even fit the whole band in one frame at 24 mm with my back on the seatback of of the first compartment. Also, the rest of the audience were very understanding about me photographing and gave me room to shoot (I was trying to be as unobtrusive as possible as well, of course).

I was shooting with the 24-120/4 VR so f4 was wide open. The light was really low, as I knew it would be; the pic I posted was taken at ISO 10000.

While I'd done it before, I actually made a quick low light/high ISO comparison between the Df and the D850 at home before this shoot. I took similar pics with both cameras at ISO 25600. Just as I remembered, when resized to 1200 px on the long side, I felt the image from the Df was better than that of the D850 directly from NX Studio. And as the first performer wasn't very loud even though her voice and acoustic guitar were of course amplified, I was happy with the more silent shutter sounf of the Df - just in case.
