Why so few females here? I thought it's supposed to be...

I'm sure, like most woman, she's naive about sticking her behind, both of them, at the mostly male viewers.
But she's trying to be inventive. I like that.

My girlfriend thinks she's mooning us all, PG style. Or maybe she thinks the camera works better upside down, LOL.

But I still like some of her images and she should participate more in autofocus arguments or metering or expodisk tests. Didn't someone do a test on using a bra as a white balance standard? Maybe lonit can test that for us.

the men that don't want to stop and ask for directions!!! LOL!!! ;)

Why is photography so male dominated? Not that I'm shocked... I'm
always finding myself interested in "guy things" (watch it, you
with the dirty mind! Yes, I meant YOU!!!).

Someone's religious or ethnic background from their responses / username in an internet forum? You can usually tell what gender they are. This makes it a much easier observation and one that does not require a scientific poll to figure out.

Mike
... that has been asked in the past in other forums by the female
photographers. What I find is so strange, you have the answers
because you are a female and I have opinion as being a male.

Also I find it strange and make me think why it does not go any
further. I have not seen the same question being asked how come few
Blacks, Hispanics or other minorities in this forum. It seems the
forums are dominated by males like me, white males. If you go to
B&H Photo in New York City, you will see the majority of buyers are
white males.

How come no question are asked how many Catholics, Protestants are
here? Republicans or Democrats? Liberal or Conservatives. I have a
clue what the answers are from many of the photos I have seen or
messages they have posted. But I will bite my lip and not say
anything.

Also I might point out, only a women could get away posting your
sig photo. As a male if I did that many would find it offensive. :(

that is even 50% female. Combine that with photography being a male
dominated hobby...
I happened onto one such board quite some time ago and it was practically all women. I think it was a site/forum having to do with photography of children. I know that Lisa Neal was a poster on that site. I tried searching it here but the darn Search function hasn't been working the last while.

you sure that wasn't all guys in that forum?
IS a guy thing!! and also because the internet is still a place
where the population is mainly male... fortunately this is changing.
You're kidding? That's soooo funny b/c I've been hanging out in a
mama's breastfeeding forum for 8 yrs. Male domination never crossed
my mind!!!!!!! LOL!

Nope--the women posting in these forums do not have the answer, because they aren't the women who aren't posting in these forums....

Hi Gayle, so nice of you to introduce yourself! :) It's a pleasure to meet you. I do think I may have seen your name pop up once or twice - I seem to remember ther "y" spelling of it. :)
Hi Lonnit, just thought I'd pop in here and make myself known.
(Thanks for the "introduction" Ann).
Actually, I've been following your entries in the CSLR Challenges
and looked at your pBase gallery on more than one occasion. You
have some very fine work there, indeed.
Thank you very much. It's a start. I'm eager to learn and improve.
The reason we have not crossed paths yet is that I don't frequent
this forum and I don't actually "qualify" yet for the CSLR
Challenge as my camera of choice is an A70. However, I'm a regular
entrant in the CTF Challenges and hope to give you guys a run for
your money in a few months when I get a 300D ;-)
You can give us a run, but forget about the money! LOL! Bizarre contest in which you win a ton of work!!!!! LOL!
About me......I am Australian married to an American, mum of 4,
computer technician by day, prolific and enthusiastic photographer
by night and weekend. And loving every minute of this learning
curve that photgraphy brings.
It is a wonderous hobby! :)
It's very nice to make your acquaintance, I hope you'll take a few
minutes to check out my gallery.
Wow - petting an actual kangaroo! Cool - and a nice shot to boot!

"Following in His Footsteps" is so sweet. :) Holy cow! - those are some deeeeeeeep strawberry seeds! Great capture! Oh, but you really, really shine with the still lifes!!!! GEEZ those are great! (Including the Gippstown ones!) Truly, the still lifes are your finest work and quite quite good!
Gayle.....extending the hand of friendship across the internet :-)
Lonnit, reaching out to grasp it, and shaking it vigorously! :)

BTW, pardon the exclaimation points, I tend to get a bit enthusiastic! LOL!

Warmly,
Lonnit

BTW, you wouldn't happen to run in any of the AP or Maya Wrap circles would you? We havent' met before, elsewhere on the net, have we?
Warmly,
Lonnit
There are some fine female photographers on this forum and others
here on dpreview. You, Roberta, Mlynn, Helen, Faye, Ann (Canadian),
Gayle, Renee, me... to name just a few. (Don't want to leave
anybody out. I know you are out there but my brain is rather fuzzy
when it comes to names.) And photography is also supposed to be
about the young and some of us defy that rule too. I've learned a
great deal from other ladies on this and the Sony forum. We're
here. :) Ann

by experimenting. I've learned a great deal since I started
participating in these forums and challenges over a year ago.
Well, this place has taught me sooo much already! I cannot believe how quickly I'm getting this!
place can provide a great education if you enter the challenges,
look at what others are doing and open yourself to constructive
comments.
I was astounded with what I put up for my very first challenge. I didn't even know I had it in me! LOL! And of course, I couldnt have done it without this forum.

I can't wait to see what I can achieve over time with all the knowledge accrued here!

Life's short kids. Git out there and shoot photos. No waitin around
for pop tarts.
They're good.

As far as the Internet -- I've learned a lot on dpreview. First in
the NTF and now here. Thanks to all who participate. Well, except
the ego-maniacal ones and sometimes even thanks to them.

I hadn't noticed there weren't many women.

Everyone's entitled to be a jerk sometimes so I don't hold it against anyone. :) I'm here to learn, so if someone's tactless it doesn't matter all that much to me, as long as they have something to say that I or someone else can learn from. Blatent insults accompanied by no helpful advice is just immature and pathetic and rolls right off my back. :)

I think it's really because women are more likely to keep a "low
