How Do you Protect your LCD Screen??

Yes, just the Pro Cap not the other one and it uses an acrilic glue that sticks to the LCD cover.

Funny thing is I used to use the PDA cover but the problem with it was the fact that it blocks out a lot of light so your images always look dull on the LCD, the only way of knowing if you have proper exposure is to look at the histogram. With the hoodman there is no loss of light and I am amazed once more how bright the LCD screen is, and sharp!!

Sorry for such a simple question. I just don't want to get it
scratched.

TIA

From Karen:

http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=005Dur
canon phone number for parts: 732-521-7230

canon part number: cb3-0887

cost: $13.24 + tax (includes shipping)

There is also a thread on this forum as well telling people how to replace the LCD cover by using a suction cup. I did a search just now, unfortunately this server is too busy. Hope someone can point that one out.

Good luck!

I worried about it at first, but it is very durable, and I understand it's cheap to replace the cover if it's scratched.

Same here. I only look at that part of the camera if I have to do a menu change (format and CFn changes) or during a lul in shooting to weed out shots of the "South end of a bird going North" (translation.... Missed Shots).... LOL

Hard at work

The LCD already has what I believe is a glass protective element. And if it were to get damaged (VERY unlikely based on all the experiences I've heard on the board, including my own), it's not expensive to replace.

Adding an extra element behind it is not only not-useful, but is probably not as durable as the protector that's already there (sorry - that's too many nots in one sentence!).

Juli,

Initially, I was wondering how to protect my lcd cover from scratching. After I read that thread that I can actually replace one by myself. Then I feel much better. I am always trying to protect it from scratching, unfortunately I accidentally scratched it (somewhere near the view finder) with my glasses. :( It was not that bad but.....it won't like nice anymore...I will definately buy that part when I really need it.

Wow! You are the first person I have EVER heard of scratching one. How severe is the scratch? If it is only minor, have you tried car polish to remove it? (NOT cutting compound!!) If you are gunna replace it anyway, you may as well try the polish first.

I regularly use a VERY fine cutting polish called "T-Cut" on boat windscreens made of both Lexan and normall perspex, T-Cut removes any scratches while leaving the windscreens crystal clear, with NO polish marks as all.

I also use it on my car windscreen to remove all the road grime, again no marks! ....and after it's use my wipers have that zip-zing!! of new car glass, rather than just dragging across with effort.

PS I have no protection on my LCD and my cameras cop a lot of pro use.

I used them on my Olympus cameras. Invariably, I got lint and dust between the cover and the LCD. It's a mess. I tried PDA covers, but I wasn't happy with the results.

I agree used them and found them to be more trouble than help. Have removed from both cameras. LCD replacement screen is only $10 from Canon. Old one can be removed with a suction cup and the new pressed in place.
