Hi, any rumors about a new RX100 m8 camera?

When can we eventually expect this compact camera?

I shall be looking forward to replies, thanks in advance.

Best regards, Herman

No.

As mentioned already, "never" is the most likely reply.

The Cyber-shot division has not made any more new cameras since 2019 with the release of the RX100M7. Before that there was something released quite regularly.

Some RX100 parts were used by the video division to make some vlogging cameras.

Same replies as always since 2019.

The rise of smart-phones and the "good enough" quality from them killed the compact camera market. Sony makes money now from supplying tiny smart-phone cameras and/or sensors to various phone makers, and from selling system cameras.

If you can find a new RX100M7 for sale then best buy it and take very good care of it as the world is very unlikely ever to see anything again that good in a small camera.

If you want the 24-200mm zoom, find yourself a VII. I just got one and I love it. If you want the 24-70mm focal length with the faster f1.8-2.8 aperture, get the ZV-1 (first version, not the Mk II). The ZV-1 is essentially the Va without the viewfinder and some added features for video. It's a "vlogging" camera, but it's a perfectly capable still photography camera, and significantly cheaper than finding a V or Va.

Get a RX100 VII while you can. A M8 would probably have little improvements, USB-C and the latest AF engine would be the biggest additions.

Not even that would have been included, just USB-C. But Sony found a cheaper solution.

Yes, the way around the EU regulations was the RX100M7A to drop in-camera battery charging and provide a separate charger in the box. The sad bit is doubled, the camera appears to have lost the charging ability plus both the camera and the separate charger still have the older USB connector, never migrated to USB-C.

The RX100M7 (A?) will appear back in UK from May 30th it seems. https://www.sony.co.uk/store/product/dscrx100m7ab.ceh/RX100-VII-Compact-Camera-2C-Unrivalled-AF

Specs on the RX100M7A here https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/compact-cameras-dsc-rx-series/dsc-rx100m7a/specifications where they show....

As for Australia where I am, the site shows it as "add to order for next shipment" with no expected date so far. They used to have April 2025, they now show no date and none ever came for that April promise anyway. https://store.sony.com.au/rx-series/DSCRX100M7.html

No idea where the OP lives, possibly EU so best he check the usual sources in EU.

Thanks for the replies.

What price tag has RX100 mark 7 (occasion)?

Best regards, Herman
I paid $1300 for mine last year, but then they went up to $1500.

Now there are reports it will go up another $200 starting May 19th, due to tariffs.

I struggled to justify spending $1300 for one, but it is excellent for what it is, and very unique. I don't think I could justify $1700 though. YMMV.

The M7 has 7 opt. zoom, do RX100 versions exist with approx. 4-5 opt. zoom?

I like their size and weight, and important to me, it has a evf.

Unfortunately this cute camera is hard to find and rather expensive.

The M6-7 have 8.3x zoom. The M3-5 have 2.9x, while the M1-2 had 3.6x.

The M1 didn’t have an EVF, and the M2’s EVF was separate and optional.

I would not recommend any model older than the M5.

It may become more available when the M7A arrives in the shops. That’s basically a degraded version of the M7, without in-camera battery charging.

Does it really not support in camera charging or are they just failing to mention it? Since it would cost some money to change the camera internals I'm going with the possibility of the latter until somebody shows that USB charging with the VIIA doesn't work. For what it's worth I never have used in camera charging with my RX100vii.

Yes, I'm just going by the stated specification. I've not heard anything from anyone who's got their hands on a real one. But if they’ve done it, I imagine that it was just a firmware update (not firmware available for download). I doubt that Sony has had to spend long testing it!

I've used it, but only occasionally.

Thanks for the replies.

I will start looking for a used RX100 (with evf) with 8,3 optical zoom.

This may take some time, there aren't many used RX100 cams for sale...

Haven't found the RX100 viia yet at shops.

Get a RX100 VII while you can. A M8 would probably have little improvements, USB-C and the latest AF engine would be the biggest additions.
That itself would be amazing. If Sony wants to keep R&D down, reuse the M7 sensor, add AI-AF, USB-C, and add 10-bit 4K30 videos. This is the M8 we've all been waiting for. I'll even pay $2k for it!
"That itself" gets to do a lot of work here.

What makes you think that would keep R&D costs down? Which Bionz chip would your design use? Where would you fit the hefty new battery? How would you power the ventilation fan?

This is the M8 we've all been waiting for.
Why wait? It's never going to come. Sony addresses that market with this:
I'll even pay $2k for it!
The Xperia-1M7 is cheaper than that.

Let me know when a Xperia is using a 1" stacked sensor in its entirety and not a portion of it.

It claims night photography on a par with Sony FF cameras ("The new 16 mm ultra wide-angle sensor is 2.1x larger than the previous model5 and the 24 mm lens features our revolutionary Exmor T for mobile sensor. The result is both cameras can deliver night shooting equivalent to full-frame cameras, with low noise and wide dynamic range"). Which 1" sensor camera manages that? It also produces better bokeh for portraits, has an UWA lens with automatic volume deformation correction, 2x macro

The phone uses much brighter lenses and the magic of computational photography to more than make up for the smaller sensor sizes. It's technically superior to any RX100.
