I think 10-bit HEIF is coming to Lumix cameras soon.

On Feb 26th, 2025, Lumix Lab App updated to version 1.4.0, to add support for S1Rii.
Besides that, I also found that for all the models that's supported in Lumix Lab, you
can now transfer HEIF pictures from the camera to the app. I know it's not there in the
cameras yet, but soon enough I suppose.

I like to shoot stills in V-Log + LUTs, then edit them in Resolve, so 10-bit HEIF is quite
useful for my use. Good job Lumix!

Now I hope someday Panasonic can make 16-bit TIFF an output option for the in-camera
RAW processing function. For my use it will be even better than 10-bit HEIF.

I have been watching the S5II price for a while and following the S1RII reviews in the past three days.

The one reason I have not decided was the lack of HEIF output. If/when this is introduced, I will re-consider S5 cameras.

Thanks for posting.

Exactly what I'm waiting for. Thanks for the information.

But technically this doesn't necessarily mean that it will come to the cameras as well. I could buy a car without the ability to drive, just for having it.

The update is huge.

Maybe for new m43 camera?

I hope so. I was waiting for it. Mac OS users will enjoy the higher IQ.

I hope the update will come to the G9II as well

Yes, the new Cameralabs review for the S1 II does indeed state that HEIF 10bit- among many other features- is coming to the S1R II via a firmware update. Didn’t mention S5 II or G9 II, but Panasonic has been good with firmware updates. One of the reasons I’m all in with them for the time being across FF and MFT.

And an edit to this post. Also confirmed by Panasonic in this DPReview link:

Speaking of updates, there's one for the Leica 100-400mm today.
  1. Improved operational stability when combined with certain cameras of other companies.
.... OM-3? :P

if it includes G100D,it will be a dream come true.

It's still a very good news that Panasonic finally caught up to HEIF. Now OM system is the only brand left behind in the jpeg darkness.

But Panasonic's HEIF is only 10-bit 4:2:0

Sony offers the option of 10-bit 4:2:2, which is huge deal for less banding, specially for landscape.

Lumix really should directly make it 10-bit 4:2:2 which is already available for video.

But with the Sony, there's no LUT support in photo mode, only Gamma Disp Assist, which is just a screen EOTF adjustment, which makes preview less accurate, especially when using Log or HLG gamma.
