How do you like your Powershot V1?

V1 seems to be out of stock at all the major places. Some of the fence-sitters may have discovered how good it is.

I do wish the battery was better, filming the other day at a small amusement park, and before I knew it, was out of battery and didnt have a spare on me (I generally dont carry spares anymore).

the bright side is that it did charge very quickly in body if you have a fast charger, and I was nearly full driving to my next destination.

FWIW: EVF-DC2 that I use with my M6 MKII does not work with the Powershot V1. Perhaps they will release a firmware upgrade with support for it, like they did on the M line.

A studio / organization may have scooped them up, and there may have been few in the channel to begin with.

It’s a video powerhouse. Someone tested one, and then ordered several hundred if I had to bet. It’s really ideal for its target audience… There may be vlog cameras galore out there, but this one is the new king. Regardless of how crowded the market is, when you’re on top? It’s good to be king. This could achieve X100 status, which may have been what Canon had in mind.

Canon could do that, but I think it might have to be with the same sensor and a fixed lens with a hybrid EVF/optical viewfinder. Lack of an EVF eliminates a bunch of photo-oriented customers. Canon could surely do this.

This camera does not speak to photography, it does to videography, loudly.

100% agree with both comments and hope Canon does bring in a photography oriented version and also hope it has a similar lens focal range (i.e. 16-50ish) but think it more likely it might be more like 24+70/80 and faster. Either would be excellent but the wider version for me would be better.

But the rumoured V3 will probably come first.

I think it's a shame that Canon mounted an LCD screen with such a weak backlight on the V1. Without an EVF there's nothing to fall back on on the brightest days. At least it should have supported the add-on EVF (EVF-DC2).

Yes, that would be my main criticism of this camera. Maximum brightness is not quite enough.

My recollection is that many of the M series cameras got support for the EVF-DC2 after a firmware update. Wonder if it’s technically possible (and if so would Canon do it) for a firmware update to enable EVF-DC2 support on the Powershot V1?

No, cameras that already supported the older EVF-DC1, including M and PowerShot, got firmware to support the ECF-DC2. Cameras that never supported EVF, stayed that way.
